Dvd player/recorder wont work

There has been a mistake...the model is a SANSUI SAN0218-250GB DVD+RW RECORDER....my niece was watching a DVD movie and she paused it and forgot about it...later I could not get the machine to respond to any command either by remote or on the buttons on the front of the unit...I unplugged it and re-plugged it in to hopefully reset whatever the problem was and a red light comes on...this light usually comes on when you are recording something, but I was not recording...there is nothing coming up in the display screen and the machine still will not respond to any command given to it and the red light around the rec on/off and ch+- switch is still on. HELP!!!

I also experienced this problem as well as other intermittent error messages about hdd titles damaged etc.
Rather than send machine back for repair I opened it up and found a loose cable to the hard drive.(Must have come loose during transportation even though they appear to be glued in?)
I assume that because the machine can't fully "boot up" (like with a computer) it just stalls with the red light stuck on.
So if you are not confident in opening the machine up (unplugged from the wall of course) I would suggest taking it to a repair shop (if it is not still under warranty)
Chances are it is the hard drive (Loose contact or failed/failing).
Hope this helps a few people.

WHAT DVD TO USE IN THE VRDVD5000B EVERY DVD, DVD-RW , THE RECORDER SAYS NOT COMPATIBLE

all support DVD-RW or +RW these days
your problem most likely is that you downloaded some movie with an unrecognizable avi codec that runs only on PC. And you burned that on a dVD without checking with Virtuadub first the videoformat.

First test every movie with a DVD+RW that you can erase or it gets costly. If older type DVD-RW might not be supported

Recorded DVD will not play in another player

Hey,
Maybe the format of your recorded movie didnt support your player..check out your manual for the supported formats and check the format of your recorded movie. If any of the format in the manual matches your movie format then it will definitely play..
please rate my suggestion..

Dvd player wont read the movie i burned to watch-need firmware?

Did you finalise the disc. If not try that. These older units were made before there were a lot of "homade" DVD's and were never designed to play them. Sorry. Hope this is of some help.

Burning home movies from recorder to disc

make sure its finalizing the disc you may have to go into menu or options to check, but if plays in the but not in standalone thats sounds like the problem.

DVD-RW will not finalize after recording

There is no solution for your problem. I thought my 4500 wouldn't finalize also but what is happening is that it didn't record on the disc you used. This is an older model unit and will not record on 16x discs. I believe you are boinked.

DVD PLAYS CD'S BUT WONT PLAY DVD'S

Aquarius0128 there are two things to consider here.. dvd's recorded on a computer need to be closed/finalized after you have recorded onto them in order to be used on a stand alone player.. they will play ok on original recorder because of the design of these machines finalizing prepares the structure of the disc so it can be recognised by other players as a dvd video disc.. you will usually see a 'finalize disc' option in your recording program

Second issue is this.. even if finalized an older (or even some modern) stand alone players will not recognise a recorded disc made on a computer or even if it can there are different formats DVD+R DVD-R and even DVD-RAM and DVD-RW (the two latter ones are rarely recognised outside a computer)
