If you mean you have Microsoft Office installed but not the icons to open it, go to start -> control panel -> add remove programs -> Microsoft Offce -> Change. This will bring up the microsoft office setup. Click repair and follow the prompts.

If you mean you cannot open word documents etc. because you do no have Microsoft Office, there is an excellent free office suite called OpenOffice which will give you all the tools necessary to open these files. This can be downloaded from

Your best bet is to buy a newer version of Microsoft Works of Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office has a free plug in to read Works files.

However, if your goal is to spend no money, you might want to look at some of the free Microsoft Office alternatiove programs that can read Microsoft Works files.

One that can read Works files is LibreOffice at

Or you can use an on-line converter like

to convert the WPS files to something else.

Why do my database files open up in notepad whenever I click it, is this normal? help please...

You have notepad set as your default text reader. If you have Word installed use that as your default. So go in set up your default programs you can do this by going to setup default programs in the start menu when you get there look for your default programs for .doc files etc and set it to open up using Word or whatever Word program you have other than notepad. It will not harm your computer if you open .doc or .txt files using notepad.

If you want a free Word Document for Office files or for writing purposes go to Open Office it is a free word processor Click Here, that does not cost anything and will even open most Microsoft Office documents as well. Thanks for using FixYa! John

Cannot open attachments from emails.

Hi There.
If you can not open attached documents it might be because programs are missing on your computer.
As an example:
for a file xxx.PDF you need a PDF reader installed eg. Adobe Reader.
Can be found here:
Download Adobe Reader and install it and you can read PDF files.
If the document is a Microsoft Office document you nee the whole Microsoft Office Package - but this package is not free - must by it.

As an alternative to the Microsoft program you can use Open Office.
Can be found here:
This program is compatible to Microsoft Office and it is free to use.

Other type of files need other programs etc.

I can't open a lot of email attachments

For opening documants you need the proper program to do so.
As an example:
PDF files you need a PDF Reader - eventually Adobe
Another example - when opening Microsoft Office files there might be difficulties. As an example docx files can only be opened using Microsoft Office 2007 or newer.
OK - a converter can be installed and it can be found on Microsoft homepage.

The situation is that you need to install the specific program to be able to open a specific type of file.

If you tell which files you can not open I can give you links to relevant program downloads. You then just need to install these programs - problem solved.

Awaiting your response - If you need further help.

I dont have a product key for my microsoft excel and i cannot use it without it. My laptop dont have a cd rom since it is really small laptop. i tried to search in the inetrnet the product key because that...

If you do not have the product key, be careful trying to "find" one on the Internet. What you are doing is illegal and constitutes piracy.

What I can suggest to you, since you do have an Internet connection, go download OpenOffice. This is a free, open-source office suite that is compatible with Microsoft Office, and functions just like it. You can even save your files to Microsoft formats.

Good luck.

Laptop performance is very slow to open and close am using using windows vista home with 32 bit

Try changing the setting of your computer. I use vista 32 bit and it'a fast.
The specs of my laptop is dual core processor T3200, (2.0GHZ), 667 MHz Fsb, 1mb(cache)
Moblie intel Graphics media accelerator 4500. And it's really fast when i changed my setting.

Here is my instruction to make your computer fast.

1. click start menu
2. Control panel
3. search for performance on your search box
4. click performance info tools
5. click adjust visual effect
6. click the box with best performance

and there it will go like it is a CPU.

Cant install because i dont seam to have a working windows instal

Microsoft can replace your CD/DVD for what I believe will be a relatively small amount of money:

However, some computers cut deals with Microsoft so Windows cannot be reinstalled -- it can only be "restored" so your hard drive resembles the way it came out of the factory ... which wipes out everything else on your hard drive. My Acer laptop is like that, and there's not much you can do about it except back up your important files to another drive or DVDs, then restore the hard drive, then reinstall all your programs and copy over your data files like music and documents.
