I fully inspected the skimmer for any cracks, filled it with water and found no leaks. Since it's 10 yrs old, I chaulked it up to wear and tear. I bought some 100% Silicon, applied it around the opening on the hot tub and the back of the skimmer and reinstalled. Letting the Silicon cure for 24 hrs which will be in about 2 hours and will retest. I'm pretty sure this should take care of my problem.

How do I replace the Hayward sp1070

Good Day, this is John the Hayward tech. I have attached a link to the SP-1070 skimmer. The weir is replaced by removing a screw from inside the front of the throat of the skimmer. This removes the plate the weir is attached to. You can also just pop out the weir without removing this plate by gently bending the plate at one end and removing the weir pins from the plate. http://www.hayward-pool.com/pdf/manuals/Automatic-Surface-Skimmer-SP1071-SP1070.pdf

How to vacum my spa with pool maintenance kit

if you have the intex kit , it comes with instuctions but hers it ina nut shell , find adaptor plate that fits inside skimmer (flat thing with hose port in middle) assemble sustion head and handle with hose attached and drop into pool (keep handle out) fill hose full so it sort of sinks (no air gaps) snake carefully end of hose over to skimmer (pump running normal) fit plate into skimmer quickly snake hose thru skimmer hole and fit to plate adaptor on hose port , wait a few minutes if flow continues out pump dishcharge then your good to go if not dissasemble and start over , but let filter pick up prime again 1st , do not lift head out of water even to get big stuff off pickup do it in the pool under water

I can't get surface skimmer to work

im not sure what or even how you mean "swims away" as properly intalled it has a bracket that holds to pool wall , no the most problem ive seen with these is they sink !! pulling it and bracket right to bottom , this is just an adjustment of water flow thru float skimmer vs side skimmer (normal)

We are in Melbourne and our 3yo pump is playing up. It is pulsating, starting and stopping all the time.

Check the weir door in the skimmer. If it gets something in it to stick it in the up position you will get water trying to run into the skimmer but with the door stuck shut the water get's pulled out by the pump and can't refill the skimmer fast enough. So the pump runs out of water then the skimmer refills. The pump will catch prime and run the cycle again and again. Free up the skimmer weir door and this will fix this. Also low water will do the same thing, so be sure you have enough water in the pool.

it sounds as if your skimmer is leaking, either from the plastic body, or from the faceplate gasket. to confirm this, shut off you pump and let the water settle. put your garden hose in the pool so that water is being added. get a container of food coloring, and slowly disperse it around the faceplate, and inside the body of the skimmer, and see if it gets drawn in anywhere. this will indicate your leak location. then call your installer, 2 weeks is unacceptable! good luck!

My pump will surge on, run for a while and shut off, then start up again. Unplugging and replugging makes no difference. What to do?

Check to be sure water level is up where it belongs then check to be sure your skimmer weir door is free. If this is stuck water in the skimmer will run the pump for a moment then the water will run around the door and fill the skimmer to start the cycle again.

There may be a partial blockage in the skimmer plumbing. If you lift out the basket, you may be able to see something there. If not, try a hose and flushing the lines.

Make sure the wear door is functioning properly also.

If this is not the issue, make sure that you have all the valves open so there is no restriction of flow.
