Question about Frigidaire Refrigerators

No ice from ice maker

It appears that there is no water getting to the ice tray. My water filter is good and I'm getting water thru the water dispenser just fine. The ice mechanism rotates to expell the ice cubes and also the on/off bar is working. Its just that there's no ice cubes to expell. Is there a valve behind the ice maker? Is there a sensor to tell if it needs water? Could there be something clogged up ? It's been running fine for 8 years

Sounds like the inlet valve is defective. you should have a dual water inlet valve, one side for the dispencer and the other for the ice maker. I would check to be sure the inlet for the icemaker is not clogged, also check to be sure that ice has not clogged the water line near the ice maker, or the valve could be defective.

Kenmore side by side,no water going into the the Ice maker

"IF" the unit worked before the filter change you have to check a few things. First I want you to run a few cups of water from the in door water dispenser to make sure that all the air is out of the line and out of the filter. IF you encounter any sputtering in doing this it means that the air is coming out of the system. Keep it up until the sputtering stops then let it make ice until the cubes come out. Most of the time the air in the filter takes a few days to process thru the system and start filling the ice tray.
Second if the water comes thru ok without sputtering after five cups then check where the water goes into the back of the freezer compartment. disconnect the fitting and check for ice at that point. if ice get a pan of hot water and dip that end into it to melt the ice in the tube and then afterwards, reinstall it in the back of the fridge and make some ice. You can verify that it is not a valve problem by putting the tube end in a plastic container and letting the ice maker go thru a cycle or two. water should come out and be in the container in the amount of water it takes to fill the ice maker tray.
Third, is the check process of item two. Verify if water comes thru the tubing to fill the ice maker, If not, turn off the water valve supplying the fridge and check for grit in the line clogging the opening in the valve. if grit is present clean it as best you can. IF you have the proper tools and knowledge you can back flush the valve and remove the grit blocking the valve..
This should clear the line and verify proper working of the water control valve and filter. If at any point you have a failure in the checking process it should point you to the failure rather easily. If you suspect it is the valve verify from the label on it the operating voltage and IF, AND ONLY IF, you have a knowledge of electricity and test procedures test the valve with the proper voltage applied. IF you do not understand electricity, do not do it. you might injure yourself or worse.

Goodluck in your testing.

Ice maker quit working but water dispenser still works, the reservoir to make cubes also empty.can you advise?

If the ice maker tray is empty you may have a water valve failure. usually this unit have a dual valve 1 for the dispenser the other one for the ice maker some time a side fail and the entire solenoid have to be replace. the ice maker can also be bad. an easy way for you to test if ice maker is good is by putting water manually inside the ice maker tray depending on how cold is your frig wait about 2 hrs or less if the ice maker cycles and drop ice then water solenoid is the problem if not then replace ice maker.

I have slimey, flaky sediment at the bottom of my glass of ice water. The water side is clear. I have a Whirlpool refrigerator with filter at bottom of freezer side. What can I do?

Your ice maker has a type of mold in it. Dump the ice turn off the water to the ice maker and let the ice maker clear the ice in it. Then get a spray bottle, put a little laundry liquid bleach and water in it and spray the tray where the ice cubes are made. . Let it sit for 10 or so minutes.then turn back on the water and let the ice maker go thru several cycles, dump that ice and then you're good to go.

Remember there are two sides to a dual water control valve, the water to dispenser side and the side that feeds the ice maker. Replace the WR57X10094 Dual Water Control Valve and I think you will be good to go on ice, Thanks Sea Breeze

Hello
Either the fill solinoid is bad or the inlet tube at the ice maker is frozen.
Try running a hair dryer to remove any ice that may be blocking the water from coming into the ice maker tray.

What you think is probably correct. Water valves can seep water and freeze the fill tube. Remove the ice maker and the fill tube remove ice from the fill tube and replace the water valve.

Ice maker not working

Are you sure you have the RIGHT Filter cartridge? If so, does your system have a water dispenser and if so.. is that working? If not.. some but not all ice makers have a test button under the removable service cover.. If your has that..press it and it should fill your ice tray directly after that.. If it doesn't then.. are you sure you have water back on to the system? can you reinstall the old filiter as a quick test to see if that's the problem?.. Thru a few ideas at you and hope one of them will get you going with ice.. BTW.. some systems take a pretty long time to cycle thru ( fill the air cavities with water , before they show any sign of life..meaning ice cubes)
Hope that helps !
