Maytag FAV6800AWW - LL error code

I can not do 1/2 of the size of a load I used to be able to do without the washer sutting off and displaying a LL error code. If I remove some of the cloths it will run for a while. If you open the lid the load does not appear to be out of balance or to large. 5 pair of my daughter size 6 jeans, child size, age 5 is to much. the washer shuts off and I have to remove 1 or 2 pair to finish the load.

Hello fish6pack, the LL “Large Load” error is not documented very well in the Service Manual or the Troubleshooting Guide for me to troubleshoot. I believe from what you have posted that this error takes place in Spin Cycle is that correct? Form the schematic of the FAV6800A I see connections from the Motor Control Board to the Control Board. The inputs I believe that may come into play are Motor Control Tach connection, the Torque connection and possibly the Tub Displacement Sensor. I believe these inputs or a combination of these sensor inputs may trigger the LL fail code…. that is a WAG for me at this point. I’m a rookie not a wiz on the machine but I believe I can help troubleshoot the issue. You are not down hard with the machine so if you want to gather more info on just what is causing this issue I will try to help you. Whatever info you gather may help you with the decision to repair or junk the machine, maybe other forum members will chime in with suggestions on a diagnosis/trouble resolution path to help you with this issue. I would like to know what is causing this fail code. Take a look at the Service Repair manual found at this site. This and the troubleshooting guide are good documents to help you with issues with the FAV6800A

My washer is a FAV6800AWQ. I have a similar problem, but the error code I get is "Lr". Your LL means "The washer cannot spin bec. the load is too large. Solution: Remove some items from the tub and press Start/pause. If removing item sodes not correct the problem, call for service.--> I got this answer from the owner's manual. But it seems that you did what the solution said to do. My "Lr" issue meant that the motor was not running properly. It says I should call for service, which I did. Prompt Service didn't know what they were doing. I paid them for their service call $45. I then called Carter Services in Torrance, CA. Alex seems to know what he is doing. We had to replace the motor -- under warranty. But after he replaced the motor, he said that the machine wasn't working well, still. So, he said I need a motor control board...$280 + tax (not under warranty anymore). This just happened today 2/20/09. So, I'll have to wait till sometime next week to see if it works. There is a "Cheat sheet" at the back of the console control. Just unscrew it and you will see the paper. Maybe this will help you.

Have Neptune FAV6800AWW top load, washes when it gets to the rinse cycle it stops with water in. If we remove the clothes and wait a while we can get it to complete. The code we are getting is DR which...

Are you sure the error code is DR? Could it be DC an unbalance error code. Google ""16022808.pdf"" to find. Is the washer banging around in Spin Cycle? If so this is a Clutch Pulley issue.

Google this ""Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW"" a forum where I help owners of the FAV6800A and FAV9800A machines.

DR is not a listed error code in the FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual.

GETTING DC ERROR CODE WITH A GRINDING SOUND AND THEN IT STOPS COMPLETELY

The DC error code is 9 time out of 10 caused by a Clutch Pulley malfunction. The grinding may ne Outer Tub Bearings but need more info. Open the Washer Lid. Spin the wash basket CCW. Do you hear and grinding noise?

The noise may be coming from under neath the tumblers. Further troubleshooting is required.

Do you have basic DIY mech. skills and do you want to save your $1K machine?

If so Google Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW

Code LL flashing. Will not complete a cycle.

The LL error code is not documented very well.

Can you tell me what point of the Wash Cycle the Cycle Status LED is in when you error out with the LL error code?

I believe it will be in the Spin Cycle of the wash cycle.

You could try a Quick Spin test and see if the wash basket will spin up to 850 RPM with no laundry in the Wash Basket. See Page 14 of the Service Manual and see if the Wash Basket will spin up to 850 RPM.

You could also check the TDS for proper range of motion using the SM or this typed out process.
Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics check.
It is possible the Tub Displacement Sensor may have failed try this check which is in the Troubleshooting guide stored in your washer console or refer to the SM.

a. Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

b. Press the Super Wash key display reads “in”…something like that.

c. Press Delicates the Display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

d. Push tub to the back right corner of the machine the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

e. Press Hand Wash.

f. Pull tub to the front left corner while pushing the tub down the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

If you fail this test it would be time to remove the machine front cover check if the TDS sensor has fallen of its mounting position between the Tub and the washer frame.

Maytag washer top load neptune

See this post for troubleshooting the Lr error code. . http://www.fixya.com/support/t2419091-maytag_neptune_top_load_fav6800aww_tub

Lr is locked rotor. My first thought was that this could be a Motor Controller issue. This owner replaced tried that and it did not resolve the issue. He then replaced the main Control Board and that fixed his machine. Without known good parts (Control Board Motor Controller) this might be difficult for a DIY fix.

The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

If you are going to try to DIY the repair I will see if I can help……Rich

LL what does that mean on FAV6800AWW

LL = Large Load detected. Unless you really overloaded the machine I believe there may be other issues lurking. How large was the wash load that caused this error code to the display?

I'm an owner like you with some basic knowledge and hands on experience. LL code is large load detected. I believe this alarm is triggered by increased motor load/torque.

This error code is not documented very well in the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW Service Manual. If you haven’t overloaded the machine then there are other issues. Pull the SM from that link above. It has the all important Service manual and Use and Care Guide combined.

I think this may be an issue related to the Clutch or possible increased rotational resistance of the Spinner assembly and or the Transmission/Tumblers. I vote right now for a Clutch issue. If you have basic mechanical skills take a look at this post. I would drop the clutch out of the machine and inspect and clean up and re-lube the One-way Roller clutch bearings and see if this helps.

I would go into Service Mode and step thru and document Diag codes form page 17 of the SM and see if you find any recorded error conditions. I would be curious to see if error code block 16 indicates a fail condition. I'm thinking of a possible high motor torque condition detected that may have triggered the LL code just a WAG at this time.

I would write down all error codes then clear all error codes and start collecting from your next wash cycle but I’m going to assume the LL code happened during a spin cycle do you know what part of the wash cycle the LL code triggered?

Maytag neptune tl displays LL and stops during the rinse cycle

Sorry chukenne,
Having not experienced this issue on my FAV6800AWW I missed this error code in the manual is that your machine type? Error code “LL” is documented in the troubleshooting part of the SM as Large Load detected. Does this happen with all wash load sizes? I would go into Service Mode and step thru and document Diag codes form page 17 of the SM and see if you find any recorded error conditions. I would be curious to see if error code block 16 indicates a fail condition. I'm thinking of a possible high motor torque condition detected that may have triggered the LL code just a WAG at this time. You may want to clear all error codes and start collecting from your next wash cycle but I would make a list of all codes before you clear them for reference of fail events of past wash cycles. I’m going to assume the LL code happened during a spin cycle. What caused you to drop the clutch out and re-lube/ Were you taking dc/UC errors in spin cycle? Rich
