Re: ps3 turns on then turns off
If it turns off right away flashes a quick yellow then blinks red 99% of the time this is a heat sync issue. your CPU and GPU will more than likely need to be re-seated as well. I run a home based pc repair business in southern california and have fixed this on a number of systems. You can e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information

system turns on but then turns itself off, beeps at you and flashes it's lights
at you then you have over heated the system. The GPU chip has probly pulled
itself away from the board. This will require you to diassemble the PS3...
You need to restore the file system. Here is how to do it.
HOW TO GO TO THE RECOVERY MENU OF PS3 SYSTEM
1. Make sure the ps3 is plugged in (stand by mode). 2. Put out your usb cable for the controller and the controller itself (do not connect yet). 3. Hold down power firmly, ps3 will turn on and then turn off, release power button when t turns off. 4. Hold down power again, you will hear a beep and then a double beep, when you hear that double beep release the power button. 5. Now you should be seeing something in your monitor that say "Connect usb controller", do just that. 6. After connecting the controller press PS button. 7. You are now in the recovery menu. 8. To fix the problem of corrupt data you can choose #3. 9. If you want to format your hard drive choose #5. Be aware that this option will delete everything that is in your hard drive. 10. Remember that doing #3 and #5 is not 100% to fix the problem of corrupt data, I say about 70%.
Contact Sony, you've got a hardware problem, if the light is blinking red.
Make shure your ps3 is placed well fentilated so that the heat produced by the ps3 can get away from the console, theis expands the livespan of your ps3 greatfully. Usual poeple get this hardware error when then the ps3 has overheated.
Try disconnecting your PS3 and then for 10 seconds if that doesn't work, disconnect all jackets meaning all usb connection ports connected in it. Remove them, then turn on your ps3 see what happens (without using the controller), then disconnect the ps3 cord that connects to your extension cord or jacket and plug it back in. Try it again. Then again with the controller could try.
Try disconnecting other ports such as other stuff like as listed, Irons,Fans, etc.
!!!!!!DON'T USE TOO MUCH POWER!!!!
