Question about Panasonic Toughbook CF-51 Notebook
I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-51. It fell off the couch & now it begins to boot up and within 30 seconds shuts down. I've been told it needs an inverter board, but can't find one anywhere online. Anyone familiar with this issue? Thanks for any help. Sue, FL
Sue, it's not the inverter board. People who don't really know much
about laptops will often diagnose them incorrectly, especially computer
repair shops. The problem you're experiencing is most likely related
to your motherboard. Unfortunately the most expensive part to replace on most laptops.
Your best bet is to probably just have any important files from the laptop extracted by a repair shop and then selling the computer "As-IS" on ebay. Or you could try another local repair shop to take a look at it. I wouldn't pay any money for a diagnostics since it would take most techs about 5-10 minutes to confirm what I just typed.

Laptops Shut-Down when the unit Over-Heats.
Panasonic Toughbooks are no exception.
If the FAN is potentially Blocked with DUST or
the Fall caused the FAN to FAIL, then that would explain
the Shut-Down. Try blowing out the dust from the
back or rear-side of the Toughbook. Please also take out
the removable CD-ROM drive and the battery pack.
This will allow the dust to escape by the cavities or holes
created when there is no optical drive or battery pack.
Use a compressor instead of those cans of compressed air.
Blow also through the cavities. Use short bursts of air rather
long prolonged air blasts.
Finally, if this does not work, you should be able to purchase
a replacement CF51 (without Hard Drive or Battery Pack)
for less than $75 and then transfer all the removable parts
from the old unit to the replacement unit.

i repair laptop every day and i have never seen and inverter board shut down the computer.in less it was total shorted. it sounds more like the fall my have damaged the hard drive. if a the drive wont spin it will cause the laptop to power down cause the little motor will over heat in a matter of seconds.if the laptop was on when it fell then its more than lickly the drive.
