Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

The door reverses back to open position instead of closing

When I try to close the door either by wall the unit in the garage or the remote in the car. The door goes down about a foot passed the curve and then reverses to it original open position. I have adjusted the eyes but the problem persists. I have hit the button to arrest the door and then to advance it until it is half closed. When I press the button once again, the door will continue it's downward trend until it is fully closed or it will reverse back to fully open position.
I would appreciate any advice to remedy the problem.

I have a craftsman 6 year old 1/2hp garage door opener. My problem is it opens as normal but it will only close all the way if you hold the inside button or the outside keypad button for the entire time it takes for the door to close. I am pretty sure the eyes for the safety senors are the problem and since we have no kids I don't really need the sensors so I would just like to disconnect the sensors if that would fix the problem. I did try this by disconnecting them but still no luck.

SOUNDS LIKE A SENSITIVITY ISSUE UNHOOK THE DOOR AND TRY IT MANUALLY TO BE SURE IT DOESN'T BIND OR IS TOO HARD TO OPEN OR CLOSE.

IF ALL IS WELL CHECK THE SENSITIVITY SETTINGS ON THE BACK OR SIDE OF THE OPENER.

YOU WANT THIS SET AS LOW AS POSSIBLE AND STILL OPERATE THE DOOR WITHOUT REVERSING.

NOTE: THE FULL RANGE OF ADJUSTMENT IS ONLY ABOUT 3/4 TURN SO MAKE A VERY SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT AND THEN TRY IT AGAIN.

HOPE THIS HELPS

If when closing the door it reverses to the open position and the main light flashes 10 times it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is on and not flickering ever so slightly. (check closely) Tweak them a little even though they may seem to be okay. Check for 5vdc between terminals 2 and 3 on the rear of the motor unit. If there is no voltage or if it is greater than 6vdc the logic board is bad.

The only thing that will cause the main light to flash 10 times and the door to reverse to the open position is a sensor problem. Make sure the light on each sensor is on and not flickering ever so slightly. Make sure they are not moving when the door starts to close. Lights on sensors should not blink. One light should stay on constantly and the other sensors light should go off when you block the sensors.

Check your door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a little. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

If the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the lights on the sensors are both on and not flickering. Tweak them if necessary. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors or the wiring to them.

Watch the door when it closes. If it is traveling too far and hits the floor the safety will cause it to reverse to the open position. This is a common cause. Also your door sensors may need adjusting. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering.

My garage door will not stay down when I try to close it.

IF THE DOOR CLOSES ALL THE WAY WHEN HOLDING DOWN THE WALL BUTTON AND REVERSES 6" FROM THE FLOOR WHEN NOT HOLDING THE BUTTON.
I WOULD GUESS THAT THE SAFETY EYES ARE MOUNTED ON THE TRACK.
WHEN THE DOOR CLOSES THE TRACK AT THE BOTTOM IS TOO TIGHT CAUSING IT TO FLEX AS THE DOOR GETS NEAR THE BOTTOM. WHEN THE TRACK FLEXES THE EYES ARE POINTING FURTHER AWAY FROM THE DOOR AND EVENTUALLY THEY ARE TOO FAR OUT OF ALINMENT AND THE LED WILL GO OFF - THE DOOR GOES BACK UP.

SOLUTION: YOU CAN USE THE CLAW END OF A HAMMER TO TAP THE TRACK OUT A LITTLE WIDER - TAP NEXT TO THE WALL ON THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE TRACK TO THE WALL. MOVE THEM ABOUT 1/4" EACH SIDE.

OR

YOU CAN MOUNT THE BRACKETS TO THE WALL OR THE FLOOR.

THIS SHOULD SOLVE IT

HAVE A GREAT DAY
