Question about Projection Televisions

3 Answers

My six month old Panasonic system comprises a TH-46PZ800A Plasma TV and a SC-PT865 DVD Home Theatre Sound System. It was set up with a Viera link that integrated the sound system so it came on when switching on the TV and could be operated through the TV remote. Suddenly it decided to ?un-link? and now the sound system duplicates sound coming through the TV speakers. The Viera link option on the TV menu used to have ?TV? or ?Home Theatre System? but now says ?TV? and ?Others?. Selecting Others does not create a link and so I have to turn the sound system off or it echoes the TV speakers! It is useless to me as is so can you plse advise how to re-set this so I can make the Viera link work properly again? The Pansonic help desk suggested checking/changing the cable but this is not the problem.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, try a full hard reset on the system. This requires removing the connecting all the cables to and from both the TV and receiver/home theater. additionally, unplug both from the mains and allow to discharge for an extended period of time (a couple of hours). The idea is to dissipate whatever residual power is inside both units and revert them to factory default simulating a full hard reset. Thereafter try again.

Should problem persist, I am tempted to suspect that the SC-PT865 is not sending the correct ID signals to the Plasma TV and therefore could not be recognized as 'Home Theatre System' but sensed the connection hence the 'others'. To confirm and if at all possible, try other Viera link capable devices such as Lumix Digicams, video cam and/or others. If the TV would correctly identify them through the Viera link, then you have confirmed then that the home theater is the issue. If on the other hand, the TV could not identify correctly these new devices and label them likewise as 'others', then it would be the Plasma TV in question.

As this would appear to be a software/firmware problem and since only 6 months, your best bet would be to seek warranty repair/replacement.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Try to disable the TV sound first, and check if you will going to have an option for the Viera. If you have, you can then re-enable the TV sound. Try unplugging the power cable of the the unit for few hours.

I want to couple my DSTV Decoder through my new THT-3017HDMI Home Theatre System to the TV. How do I do that? I am very much technology disatvantaged.

THT-3017HDMI to hook with TV.
Get RCA Cables, red and white from your DSTV straight to your DVD.

The Yellow (Video) Straight from your DSTV to your TV yellow input.
Set your TV to Input 1 or 2 depending on the port you used. PLease but your volume will be only controlled via DVD, if you switch your TV off it will still sound the TV channels via DVD speakers,

Plasma tv screen goes black once you turn it on. Only sound

I have a panasonic TH-42PX60U plasma TV. When I watch TV programing I have no problems, or with the DVD input. But if I switch to another input, be it video game (PS2) or vcr the screen sometimes goes black and the red power lcd light next to the power switch flashes. Holding the power button in for a few seconds will shut down the tv. Then I can turn it back on and it may operate normally again for a undetermined period of time, before the screen goes black again. This never happened when new. The tv is about 1 year old. Any ideas on this problem? Thanks Ernie

Having just bought a Panasonic TX-37LZD80 television and a panasonic sc-pt460EB-K home cinema system, I connected the 2 together using a HDMI Cable and all works well except that I cannot get the sound...

When I purchased the television iI was told that I would only need a HDMI cable to connect the devices together, this is not true as the HDMI only provides 1 way transmission, to get the sound to go from the television back to the home cinema you need to use either a Phono Lead or Optical lead, plug them in and Hey Presto it works.
