Sleepless...
I have a Kenwood DVF-5010M ( the little brother of the 9010) anf yes it
does play both dts DVDs and dts CDs without problem. You need to connect
your dts decoder to either the digital or coaxial optical connectors on
the player and ensure you tell the player to send dts Bitstream data to
these connectors in the players set up menu.
The player can be inexpensively modified to play discs from all regions
for less than $100. If you are asked to pay anymore than this you are
getting ripped off. My 5010 was delivered from the dealer already
modified and carries a full manufacturer's warranty. Manual region
selection is made via the remote control. This appears to be a better
system than the auto-selection modes some players use as the later DVDs
sometimes won't play in units that use auto region selection. I have
played many discs designated as region 0, 1, 2 and 4 on my Kenwood without
problem.
As far as video and audio quality is concerned I have no negative comments
to make about the performance of my 5010. I understand the video
performance of the 9010 is even better than the 5010. I have used the
5010's internal PCM decoder to play both CDs and DVDs. Audio performance
with decoding performed by my Sony TA-E9000ES pre-amplifier is faultless
with digital signal output from the Kenwood via the optical TOSLink
connector.
Cheers,
Alan
