Question about Office Depot Ativa DQ60M Shredder
Our Staples SPL-1506X Shredder just stopped working - we've checked for paper jams (none); have unplugged it and turned everything off, then plugged it in and it still won't work. Is there a reset button?

I had the same problem. I have a solution but I do not recommend this unless you have technical experience with repairing electrical appliances. I took the back cover of the main shredder unit to expose the wiring (there are 7 screws in total). The bin full sensor has a blue, green, and red connected to it. I clipped the blue wire to defeat the Bin Full error. You can look through the plastic window to check that the bin is full.

Well, despite the manufacters warning label I choose to take the shredder apart and found that one of the plastic gears was broken. Hence the motor runs, but the blades do not turn. The thing I didn't understand, the there are metal gears and plasic gears...I can only imagine that the plastic gears at one point or another are going to give. I would suggest not to void the manufacters warrenty, take the shredder back, and get one that is built a little stronger. Hope that helps.

These shredders have a "paper in" sensor. This is either optical or mechanical.
Sounds like the sensor is blocked and therefore "thinks" there is still more paper left, and this is why it keeps going.
Before you do anything UNPLUG THE SHREDDER.
The sensor is located about in the middle and at the level of the blades.
If it's mechanical, you should see a little finger, else it is electronic.
Shine a light in the area and you should be able to spot where the blockage is.
A shot with compressed ais usually gets rid of the offending particles.
After you're finished working on it, set it back securely on the basket and plug it in.
