Water dripping in refrigerator

Whirlpool refrigerator - 1997 modelI have a Whirlpool refrigerator model ET22DKXFW00
I purchased it in March 1998.
The food is not jammed against the air duct.
The condenser coils have no dust on them
The door gasket is brand new
Water is dripping onto top shelf of refrigerator from the control panel cold air supply duct.
What's wrong with my refrigerator?

How do you go about cleaning the drain tube? I took the lower back panel off and after vaccuuming all the dust I can see about 10" of the drain pipe, but I can't see where it goes. Up in the freezer there is a piece of stainless steel sheet metal under the evap coil; this stainless looks like a drip pan somewhat. Does the drain tube begin in this pan because I don't see it!

I just removed the right side styrofoam 90degree duct and hiding behind it was the "frozen solid" drain hole! After 2 hours of hair dryer I finally fished a long piece of wire up from the condensate pan and broke the ice jam-then the water came out. So now I know for next time. Thanks to all for providing food for thought in my refrigerator problem.

(It still amazes me that you open the door and the light goes on...lol.)

aborcass; you are correct, sir. (Fan fare plays in the background)Thanks for the explanation-my first thought was a freon leak and an iced up coil.
    But I take this.

The TD (temperature defferentail) in too wide in your fride, (i.e th freezer is much, much colder than the fridge.)

You need to return the adjustment controls to the center position for each setting. (i.e. 1-5 you need to set on 2.5).

Allow the fridge 24hrs to adjust the temps.

Sounds like a drain clog in the freezer compartment above. remove the freezer rear panel and totally defrost the evaporator area, directly under the evap you see( under all taht ice) a small drain hole that has become frozen over, try defrosting with either a hair dryer( not a heat gun too much heat youl melt everything) or by pouring hot water donw the drain until you get a free flow of water down the tube. after its clear reassemble and you should be fine

Hi! Is there any frost on the back of the fridge? Try switching it off for half an hour.

This happens when the the defrost heater in the freezer section melts the frost and changes it to water, this water is suppose to flow down a drain system. If this drain system is restricted or plugged the water will leak inside the refrigerator.

The drain system starts in the freezer section with a tray built under the evaporator coil. The water is funneled through a small hose into a cup in the top middle of the fresh food section.

Cups ( in the top back of the fresh food section ) can be removed for cleaning. A turkey baster can be used to help clean out the drain system. Fill the baster with hot water and "blast" it into the drain hose to help flush it out. A piece of wire or pipe cleaner can also be pushed into the drain hoses to help clean then out.

Odor

Could you possibly have a dead rat under there? I know this sounds gross, but they love to hide in the electronics. (Sorry). Anyway, your drip pan may sit on a small bracket type piece that isn't heavy at all. It can sometimes get misplaced, causing the fridge to leak because it's out of place. If you can get a flash light, you should be able to see where it's placed and you should be able to remove and clean it out. I put Mr. Clean in mine when it gets an odor and when water hits it, the solution cleans the odor, but you can clean it and replace it. I hope this helps!

WATER DRIPS DOWN FROM INSIDE TOP REFRIGERATOR BELOW FREEZER

Not an original solution - but a good one. Remove panels at the back of the freezer compartment to expose the heater unit or heater wire that defrosts the freezer coils and wrap a solid copper wire gently around the heater/ heater wire and place the loose end in the drain. This will conduct heat to the freezer drain and help keep it open. I did see a manufactured part in one of the appliance parts websites but it did not match my unit.

Whirlpool gold refrigerator icemaker leaking water

hi there,

sounds like the ice or water actuator or paddle is broken. purchase a new paddle and replace it.

the reason you have leak is because you have warm air entering through the broken part into the freezer.

can you provide me with the model # and i will send you a part breakdown.
