I couldnot take out the top of the laptop near the power button inspite of removing all the screws from behind . Something is still holding it very tight. I couldnot figure out. I f you have any pictures or videos it would be much appreciated. Looks like the further solution would be easier to figure out once it can get the top apart.

    Thanx for you help

Removed the cover along the top (Where the power buttons is) by removing the three screws along the back of the laptop. You need to be careful removing this as it has small plastic clips that are very easily snapped. Once that’s off you can remove the two screws that hold the Keyboard in place. Lift the keyboard and release the catch on the Keyboard cable on the motherboard. Allows you to lift the keyboard away.
With the keyboard removed, remove the screw that’s holding the CD/DVD drive in place and slide the drive out (the release for the battery on the underside sometimes catches the drive too, so if its sticking just slide the battery release over)
Then remove the cable for the LCD display and pull the wireless connection cable through the hole, Remove the screws holding the Display in place and remove completely.
Remove the 2 screws holding in the Power button board and lift it off.
Carefully remove the 2 cables for the Touchpad, Being careful with the ribbon cable it’s again it’s easy to destroy these types of cable.

Flip the laptop over and remove all the screws from the underside, this will make it seem like its ready to come apart, but it’s not. Flip it back over and remove the top. Next to the connector where the battery plugs in you’ll find one final screw to remove. Now on the back of the laptop you’ll find your VGA port, remove the two nuts on this (long nosed pliers do this job easily or a small socket if you have one that small) once these are removed lift the motherboard from the front side of the laptop and slide it out, you now have your motherboard out.

I want to clean my cooling fan on acer aspire 5050 but i can't open the cover despite removing all the screws. Please show me on video how to open it, TQ.

Hi mjikunan...
Clean your exaust fan for your laptop the easy way.
Go to Staples,Home Depot,Office depot and purchase a can of compressed air...or a friend that has an air compressor.
Insert the nozzle into the exaust vent of laptop...blow the air for about 3 seconds...DO NOT
OVER-REV the fan...then go to the intake of the air duct and blow the air again for 3 seconds...do this procedure 4 times and the dust should be out of your laptop.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

The cooling fan in my Acer Aspire laptop (bought 1 year ago) stopped working. Can it be replaced or is it part of the motherboard?

As stated it can be replaced. Might be the pits in finding the replacement fan, though.

Let's take a look at an Acer Aspire 5520 series laptop, as an example,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/take-apart-acer-aspire-5520-laptop/

Scroll down until you come to the third photo.

Getting to the Cooling Fan in the Acer Aspire 5050 series Notebook PC's, requires a lot more disassembly, however.

The Acer Aspire 5050-3242 Notebook PC, in the category heading, is part of the Acer Aspire 5050 series of Notebook PC's.

This is the Service Manual for the Acer Aspire 5050 series of Notebook PC's,

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

Go to the second Aspire heading.
The one that begins with Aspire 1200.

Now go down to the 5th line, and scroll across to > 5050.
Left-click on 5050.

This is a PDF file.
The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

[ Although I would recommend upgrading to Adobe Reader 9, if it isn't on your computer ]

After you click on the file > 5050, you won't see anything happening for up to 30 seconds.

Most of the time the first page pops up within 10 seconds, and it requires additional time to fully download the file.

Suggest you let the file download all the way, before looking through it.
Watch the Download Progress bar.

You can save this file to your computer.
This way you can burn a copy to CD for safekeeping, and easy access anytime you wish.

You can also delete from your computer then, to save Harddrive space.
If you do not know how, and wish to, simply post in a Comment.

How do i install a memory ram on my computer acer 5050

I don't know your model laptop, but most laptops have one or two memory slots on the bottom of the laptop behind a panel. Remove the panel to reveal the RAM slot/s.
When installing RAM, say 1Gb when there is two 256Mb RAM modules, then you need to replace the existing RAM with two 512Mb RAM modules. Make sure the new RAM is the same speed as the original RAM or faster RAM.

I have an ACER 5050 laptop that I think the GPU is overheating. Immediately after shutting it down, I opened up the access to the ram, and touched the heatsink above it. It felt like it was really, really...

during summers it is OK . but take precaution and leave the ventilation port open please ensure that there is some gap between bottom surface of laptop and the surface on which it is placed.

Opening acer aspire 5050

The top and bottom covers are also held together with plactic catches.
After you remove the battery, CD/DVD drive and hard drive etc.
start near an openning and gently pull apart the top and bottom cases, you should hear a click as a catch releases, then continue to work around the edge fron this point.
