I dropped my garmin 72 GPSr..and the 'inside' screen is broken. Any way to

That's good to know, much better than replacing it. I'll remember that
in case mine gets damaged.

I sent it for repairs to Garmin and they fixed it for $59. Not bad.

I'm happy now.

Really? I wouldn't have guessed that, as a friend of mine used to do
quite a bit of that for cellphones and handheld video games and such. He
even replaced the screen on an old NEC 4x scsi cdrom I had (first one I
ever owned), I wouldn't think anything would be harder to find than that.

That'd be cool if it came with some sort of warranty. .

I doubt that it will be that easy. I lost the screen on my Meridian
and tried to find a replacement. But they are not standard parts, but
rather full custom designs and I never found one. But certainly
Garmin can replace it for far less than the cost of a new unit. Often
manufacturers have fixed price quotes for such repairs of around
$100.

I would be surprised if it was not WAY cheaper than an new one. a screen
for an ipod can be had for replacement screen for cheap if you knew who made the screen and what
model. Take it apart and see before you throw it way, IIRC, the 72 is a
fairly spendy model, right?

I wouldn't have thought you can do much yourself.

I should phone Garmin and get a returns number and let them have a look
at it.

Garmin Europe are very reasonable with repairs often replacing units or
repairing them for free when well out of warranty.

Even if you have to pay I don't doubt it will be cheaper than a new one.
