VGA Adapter stops working after memory install

I have currently 1 256MB DDR400 memory card. I ordered a 1 GB PC3200 DDR 400 and installed it. The screen goes dark right after the windows GUI appears. I tried safe mode and Enable VGA but to no avail. I also trued the new memory card alone with the same results. Do I have the wrong memory or is the memory bad?

When I run setup, it only shows four settings, all related to boot up. No settings for memory size or voltage, Does this seem right?

Yes. That is correct. THe RAM speed is not ajustable. Your  DDR400 RTAM wil not work. It had a 400 Front Side Buss speed, but only a 333 Ram speed. Go to the website I gave you the link for and download a manual for your model computer motherboard, so you may read all of the particulars yourself.

Whats the biggest and or best cpu i can put into this motherboard. i curently have an amd athlon xp 2800. i just bought some more ram and wold like to know if i can speed up the cpu.

Here is a list of supported CPUs.

http://www.ruby-electronics.com/store_item/MSI_Athlon_XP_Duron_nForce2_Motherboard_K7N2_Delta_MS-6570-020

If you're going to upgrade to the XP3000+ (the fastest supported CPU), then be sure to get the one with the 200 MHz FSB.

Also, go with the lowest supported latency DDR PC3200 you can get IN PAIRS. Remember that Windows XP 32 bit only allows a total memory allocation of 4 GB which must include your video car memory and any memory allocation for add-on cards.

So 6 512MB sticks of DDR PC3200 are better than 2 2GB sticks of DDR PC3200. As the 6 sticks will allow for dual channel transfers (above and beyond the Double Data Rate) and will keep you well within your 4GB limit (once you add the video memory and any add-on cards).

You'll also benefit from doing a fresh install of XP with nlite or similar and stripping XP of all of the components you don't use. Good LUCK!

CPU at FSB 400MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR200/DDR266
