Question about Refrigerators

Ice maker does not work

I have a GE refrigerator, model # RH519735. It has been in operation for years, without the ice maker being hooked up. I ran a water line to it yesterday. The switch on the icemaker is on, but does not fill. We are getting water to the solenoid valve, but no water passes that point.

I took the electrical connection off the solenoid but, with the ice maker lever still on and using a 120 volt current tester, I got no current. Can you diagnose the problem from there?

Freezers with automatic ice makers sometimes malfunction because the water inlet valve strainer that feeds water to the ice maker becomes clogged. To correct this problem, unplug the appliance and disconnect the water supply. Remove the water line where it enters the valve--usually at the bottom edge of the unit. Locate the wire strainer and remove it. Clean the strainer with a stiff brush, using mild household detergent. Reassemble the component in reverse fashion.

It's probably the valve itself. You have voltage at the solenoid right? If so, then replace the valve.

It sounds like there may be a blockage in the line after the solenoid.... as well hook the hydro line back up to it and tap the solenoid... it may be frozen from non usage.

Model TFX25PR ; Does the ice cube maker require any lubrication ?

The type ice makers made for your model and other models require no lubrication and are one of the most used parts of your refrigerator especially if there is a large family and lots of ice used daily. They never seem to stop working while the average refrigerator last 15 to 20 years the average life of an ice maker is only 5 years. Even ice makers that have replaceable parts the repair parts are more expensive in most cases than complete replacement. Below is an example of an average ice maker that Whirlpool and Maytag uses that have the Teflon coating in the ice slots. Your model is for GE,=> Model WR30X10093 Ice Maker and has electronic controls and no replaceable parts. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Most ice & water dispensers use a dual water valve. Sounds like the water side is not working.
Easy way to test the valve: Remove black cover in back and locate the water valve. This will have two solenoids one for the ice maker and one for water. Switch the wires and see if the water now works.

Refrigerator cannot produce ice

First you need to list the model number of your GE to get correct answers. The problem is either you water control valve or the ice maker itself. If filling the ice maker with tap water and it freezes and dumps without the ice maker refilling then I would point to water control valve for the ice maker side and if the ice maker when filled does nothing the the ice maker is defective. Thanks, Merry Christmas, Sea Breeze

My Maytag Plus refrigerator was stored for 3 years in a climate controlled storage. I moved it a couple of weeks ago and ran it for a week or so without hooking up the water line, and it was working great....

If that is the model number above your post let me know or if different. Most times the dual water control valve sticks or or may need to replace. Place water in the trays and if it freezes cycles and dumps the ice maker is OK but the ice maker during is last few seconds of cycle tells the valve to open. Try that first and I will find you a service manual and part numbers. Sea Breeze

Ice maker bad or the ice maker water valve mounted on the same bracket as the dispenser is bad. These frigs are prone to bad ice makers after a few years.

The ice maker on our GE refrigerator does not make ice

1 -Ice maker arm must be down(on position)2-Make sure the water supply line is connected to the fridge3Check if the ice maker is plugged in4The freezer must be working fine for the ice maker to produce ice. After the ice maker stars and calls for water and doesn't get any , the water valve is bad.And if everything above is ok the ice maker needs to be replaced.

Had the same problem. The water line from the valve to the ice maker was cracked due to heat from the compressor.
