IM signs me out saying I'm already signed in elsewhere.
I power on the pc & instant messenger says I'm already signed in on another computer or device (which I'm not) and automatically signs me out. This has happened during the last few weeks. I had no trouble before this
Re: IM signs me out saying I'm already signed in...
When you sign into Mail first, the new Yahoo mail automatically signs you into messenger. Mine did that all the time so now I sign into Yahoo Messenger first then when it tells me I have mail, I click on the envelope and it takes me to my mail account without signing me out of messenger. I hope that helps you.

Yahoo has prevented us from having 2 Instant Messaging capable programs open and active at the same time. For example, Yahoo Messenger with Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Web messenger, your mobile phone, Ipod, or other computers etc. etc. Yahoo classifies all these programs as "Different devices or locations". Navigating from one to the other will close one program and you may get the notification message you refer to. OR someone has hacked into your account- Report to Yahoo and Try to Recover it-Send report Politely and concisely.Do not try to Send More report for Same cause.. If this Helped -Rate ME...Thanks for Contacting FixYa
It must be because your yahoo messenger on your PC at home is configured to ' Sign in automatically'.... So the moment someone powers on your PC at home and logs in ( or it reboots due to power cut etc ) , you get disconnected in your yahoo messenger at your office system.
Yahoo Mail ? "You have been signed out out of chat because you have signed in on another device" ?
Hi, Since Messenger Version 9 was launched, Yahoo has prevented us from having 2 Instant Messaging capable programs open and active at the same time. For example, Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Webmessenger, Yahoo Mail, your mobile phone, Ipod, or other computers etc. etc. Yahoo classifies all these programs as "Different devices or locations". Navigating from one to the other will close one program and you may get the notification message referred to above.. Note. Hitting the X on the Contacts page in Yahoo Messenger does not sign you out of Yahoo Messenger, it merely closes the contacts page. Like WLM you have to close the program by right-clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting 'Exit' You can have Yahoo Mail and Messenger ( or any other program ) open at the same time as long as your status is "Offline" in Yahoo Mail. Use the drop-box next to your name and "Sign out of chat" Your online contacts will vacate the inbox until you make yourself "Available" again
This is because someone else or some other thing is logging into your account elsewhere thus logging you out. Could you have an iPhone, phone, another computer (i.e. Laptop) with your account saved. i.e. if you startup your laptop or someone else does at your house/office and it automatically logs your pre-saved Yahoo account in while your already logged in, it will log you out and return to you that message.
You can only have one yahoo "Instant message capable" program open at one time. So if you move from Messenger to mail or chat you will get this message. If you want to have Yahoo Mail open with another Yahoo IM program you will have to set your status to "offline" in MAIL by using the dropbox next to your name ( all new mail) select "sign out of chat" In Classic mail its located in the Inbox. Your online chat contacts will vacate the inbox until you make yourself "Available" again. Yahoo classifies - Messenger - Mail - webmessenger - my yahoo - mobile phones - computers etc etc as different computers or devices - hence the confusion.
You have to clean yahoo completely off your system.
1. Uninstall yahoo with add/remove programs.
2.Open registry editor, make a backup of your registry.
3. Search through the registry for yahoo and delete all yahoo entries
4. reinstall yahoo messenger
5. sign into your yahoo mail account, and change your password
When you sign into Yahoo Mail first, the new mail automatically signs you into yahoo messenger thru mail, so your best bet is to sign into Yahoo Messenger first, then when and if it says you have mail, click on the envelope to go to your email. It does the same thing for me but when I sign into messenger first then go to my email, I stay signed into messenger. Hope that helps you.
