Question about Sony KP-46WT500 46" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Sony 46WT500 green beam ripple

I have a Sony KP-46WT500; blue and red beams work fine, but green bends inwards on the left side towards the right, something like this: |)......|
Also, ripples occur only in the green beam around the bottom 1/3 of the screen (top 2/3 are fine, no ripples). These two problems occur simultaneously about 5 minutes after the set is turned on, regardless of the input used. It is not a graceful degradation, they occur from one moment to the next.

If the TV is powercycled, it works fine for another 5 minutes, thus I don't think it's caused by heat (I'm thinking an issue with a capacitor, but it's just a guess). I don't think the STKs are at fault either, as convergence is fine for the first 5 minutes. Any ideas on what/where the issue could be, or where/what I should look for on the board?

Hey there. I have the same problem but mine seems to do that on all sides and center is fine. If i cover the green projector up then the tv is fine and know problem but different color. lol.. pink. mine is constantly like that though even if i turn it on or off. Just wandering if you found the cause and the part to fix it. I talked to a tv repair shop a while back and he told me that there is a problem in the conversion circuit but i would like to fix it myself because it would be cheaper. I bought tv from friend for 30 dollars. Good deal. Worth fixin i think. If you find something or know something please let me know and i will do the same. My regular email is p4pike@rock.com. Hope to here from you soon. Thanks Pete

Its the convergence output ICs or the solder connections beneath them.

My sony projection tv model # kp-46wt500 has a green and red tint. how can i fix it?

Increase the current flow to the blue color gun. If it is not adjustable it will need replaced and this is a major repair. You can try to reduce the red and green guns and increase the output transformer for a temporary fix, but save up your pennies for a replacement. Have a tech look at it before running out for a replacement because the SONY is the better model projection televisions.

your convergence IC;s are out, they cost about $40, if you know how to solder, you can do it your self, if not , I would try to find somone that can, service centers charge about 4 or 5 hundred, after you get the new ones, there easy to find on the board in the back of the tv

You need to have the convergence IC's replaced. A repair like this should run you about 300 bucks or so. In most places.

Pincushion Picture on a big TV screen!!!

The set has 3 IC's(one for each color)strictly dedicated for the aligment of each color,if one them does not align is because is going bad or is already bad becuase picture can not be adjusted, the IC's can be identify because they are mounted on a heat sink and have the markings STK--- ---,they are all the same and need to be replaced with an exact replacement. If you are familiar with tv service you can replace them, sometimes the new ones need to be aligned from the service menu, you will need the service manual, soldering and unsoldering will be involved,If you are not too familiar be safe and seek the assistance of a servicer.

Sony KP-57WS500 Pictures problem

Your Convergence Correction Amplifier ICs have gone bad (STK329-110) They must be replaced along with the biasing resistors

www.electronix.com has the parts you will need plus I would suggest that you have a qualified TV repair person do the installation for you.

Make sure the traces on the circuitboard are good and that the solder connections are good.

But the ICs and resistors need to be replaced.

Thank you,
