I have a Sony KP-46WT500; blue and red beams work fine, but green bends inwards on the left side towards the right, something like this: |)......| Also, ripples occur only in the green beam around the bottom 1/3 of the screen (top 2/3 are fine, no ripples). These two problems occur simultaneously about 5 minutes after the set is turned on, regardless of the input used. It is not a graceful degradation, they occur from one moment to the next.
If the TV is powercycled, it works fine for another 5 minutes, thus I don't think it's caused by heat (I'm thinking an issue with a capacitor, but it's just a guess). I don't think the STKs are at fault either, as convergence is fine for the first 5 minutes. Any ideas on what/where the issue could be, or where/what I should look for on the board?

Its a convergence problem. You may want to check the site www.tvrepairkits.com. Every thing they said every description was right on. The best money I ever spent and the confidence you get from doing it yourself, Its a great feeling of achievement not to forget the live messenger support is instantaneous, friendly and informative if you need to fix your tv go to tvrepairkits.com I fixed a philips 60 inch tv in 45 minutes, The convergecne chips were bad thanks a million. You guys saved me 250.00 bucks. I'll be recommending you to everyone I know!
Increase the current flow to the blue color gun. If it is not adjustable it will need replaced and this is a major repair. You can try to reduce the red and green guns and increase the output transformer for a temporary fix, but save up your pennies for a replacement. Have a tech look at it before running out for a replacement because the SONY is the better model projection televisions.
all three guns red blue and green should be replaced and the flote.
cost could be from $400 to 680 in parts depending on wer you buy them. I would but the parts my self then pay the repairmen to do the install this way you dont get priced up to high in parts cost.
if you take the front cover off the tv, you will see 6 little nobe, the top 3 are focus, bottom 3 are brightness, should be RED-BLUE-GREEN in order from left to right, find the one that is blue, turn it down a quarter turn, should fix the problem
your convergence IC;s are out, they cost about $40, if you know how to solder, you can do it your self, if not , I would try to find somone that can, service centers charge about 4 or 5 hundred, after you get the new ones, there easy to find on the board in the back of the tv
The set has 3 IC's(one for each color)strictly dedicated for the aligment of each color,if one them does not align is because is going bad or is already bad becuase picture can not be adjusted, the IC's can be identify because they are mounted on a heat sink and have the markings STK--- ---,they are all the same and need to be replaced with an exact replacement. If you are familiar with tv service you can replace them, sometimes the new ones need to be aligned from the service menu, you will need the service manual, soldering and unsoldering will be involved,If you are not too familiar be safe and seek the assistance of a servicer.
