Your lcd probably went out, either that or the video card / chip on your motherboard. Usually it's the lcd itself though, occasionally it's the lcd cable but majority of time it's just the lcd itself. You can try using an external monitor to see if you still get a display from the laptop. If you do it points closer the lcd being the problem.

Once I turn the computer on it only shows a blank screen. I am able to see the mouse arrow move but I am unable to get to my desktop or anything else. What do I do?

If you can see the mouse arrow, the display adapter is working. Try right clicking on the desktop. If you get a popup display, select the VIEW option, and another popup should appear next to it. Look at the bottom of the list and ensure that the "show desktop icons" selection is checked. If not, click on it and see if the icons return.

The line that appear are simply static noise. The problem is the Operating System and you either have lost Windows, or the Hard Drive failed. Needs technical evaluation.

Hi, My acer laptop screen gets color vertical lines and cant see anything else. sometime it works fine but after some time it gets lines again

HI There,

The easiest way to troubleshoot your problem is to connect your laptop to an external monitor. If the lines on the laptop screen don't appear on the monitor, then you know you need to replace your screen and screen inverter.

If the lines appear on the external monitor as well, then your video card on the motherboard of the laptop is failing and you'll need a new motherboard or want to consider a new laptop, depending on the repair cost.

Regards,

Marcus

Are you able to view the same screen even in the BIOS screen? If yes, service is the final option. Try to reinstall the Video Driver. This seems to be a Hardware issue

My toshiba laptop has a thick white line down the screen

The normal cause of lines across the LCD of a laptop is a damaged video cable. The unusual cause would be the video card itself.

To determine which item is at fault, you need only attach an external monitor to your laptop's video-out, and then swap your monitor view to 'both' or mirrored (usually just the function key (FN), plus one of the Fkeys...look for an off-blue picture of a monitor on the Fkeys).

If the lines across the screen also appear on an external monitor, then the video card is damaged.

If the lines only appear on the laptop's LCD, but not the external monitor, then just the laptop's internal video cable is damaged.

Hope this helps.

PC monitor is black unable to view

Most probably your LCD screen has got spoiled and the liquid has leaked making the screen blank. Remember our old calculators, how its display changed colors(black) when pressure was applied on it?.....sodeep

Google end user licence agreement

The problem here is that you are not seeing the entire screen. Your screen resolution is probably set to 800x600 this needs to be increased to at least 1028x764.

To do this (in Vista) go to Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > (under the header Personaltion) Adjust Screen Resolution

Slide the bar in the center of the popup window to the right to achive a higher resolution. Click OK.

After you do this you should be able to see the entire license agreement.
