Question about LG RC797T

Open Question

What is the proper hook up for my LG RC797T DVD player with LG High Def TV and local High def cable box? I can't seem to record.

I have a cable box, Sony HD TV, and the LG DVD/VCR model as stated above. Cable Box and remote are Motorola brand. Can run the TV and the LG unit from the remote, play DVDs, but cannot timer record to a VCR. It actually comes on and records, but get nothing but snow. The Manual says to set the LG to the channel you want to record, but I do not know how to do that. Do I have to use the IR control Cable (whatever that is) to get this to record?

SOURCE: dvd/vcr recorder stops recording

I finally got word back from a pal at LG regarding this issue as where I work we are getting these and as of Friday had about 18 to 20 units with this issue.

LG told us that this has to do with the encoding with the commercials (a one time record issue) on the one time record disks (DVD-R and DVD+R) now their "TEMP" fix for this is to used DVD-RAM or DVD-RW disks (these are not regular -RW they have a encoding CPMsomething I don't remember right now) but they will update us when they have a permanent solution. I will get the type of disk for the -RW on monday and post it here for everyone.

SOURCE: LG RC797T Won't read disks

I had this problem last year. It had to be sent back to the company to replace the entire dvd unit; however, I found that it probably had been caused by electrical surges. Once I got it back after repair (replacement) I put the best possible surge protector I could buy on it and have not had a problem with that issue again. The idea of a surge problem came about because I blew 3 Onkyo stereos while still in warranty several years ago and they did the same thing- would not read discs, would say no disc, etc. & the protector ended the problem.

SOURCE: dvd/vcr recorder stops recording

DVD-RAM itself, and DVD-R formatted in "VR" mode are SUPPOSED to allow for recording "ONE TIME" per DRMA. The broadcasters are probably sending the wrong copy protection signal if the -RAM & -R/VRmode are stopping.
At least, that is my understanding.

SOURCE: connecting LG DVD recorder to cable box and HGTV digitally

Two things come to mind: copy protection and resolution settings.
The TV may not allow copy protected material to come from your LG, or the sampling frequency may be unacceptable. On page 15 of the manual it talks about 96kHz and 48kHz frequency settings. The third thing to check is the vertical resolution using the RES button on the front panel. SDTV is 480, and HDTV is anything above that. Using the HDMI is supposed to allow upconvert to 1080i max if your set can use that resolution.

How do I connect the DVD player to a Panasonic High Def Plasma TV?

Choose connections on the Panasonic that match those on the player--

Do you have on the player Component outs(blue, green, red and 2 audio which are red and white? This ought to give you the best picture and sound.

Other inputs to the set must match the ones coming from the player--Most owner manuals have a lot of details here.

If the player has 1080 output hook to a similar input on the set.

Some advice here: make the connections between units with both turned off.

I had a new high def tv installed.the cable company hooked up there box .now i cant record anything on the vhs.

Hello,

was the VHS recording before the new high definition TV was installed? Or are you trying to say that the cable company has tempered with the settings of the VHS?

Probably, the cable company, has removed the cable for the player. Check the back of the player and let me know if the cable between the player and the TV are intact.

The above needs to be verified for accurate solution.

I look forward to your reply.

Bye for now.

Sound but no picture

Your player has several outputs and you might want to start with the basic Video Audo Left Right output first.

Set your with your plazma to see if you can change the input types to accept the video and audio input which will probably be labeled AV 1, AV 2 and so on.

My guess is that you have it set for Component Red Blue Green which his a high def (just before HTMI) and requires a separate audio cable. Your player, depending on the age of the unit, probably will not have Red Blue Green picture output.

Next if you have an HTMI output from your player hook that to your Plazma in the HDMI 1 position and select it on the TV's setting. Audio and Video are both carried in the HDMI cable.

Good luck, my name is Eric Kirkhuff

Poor viewing with VCR

how do you have the combo connection and dish network hooked to the tv ? if you have an s-video , yellow RCA jack video or component video hooked to the same input then it will act this way, because two inputs cannot be on the same video input # on the tv.
is this what is happening? or how are you connecting it?

Audio out of sync when i record a video on my archos 705 and then transfer it to dvd

I find the problem may be with the Top-Box ,not getting a clean signal....This is DEF true if u are using a High Def Top Box.
Best solution is to make all component`s free from each other.( Conection`s etc ) as much as pos. + Use a signal booster.
So it`s all down to the Aerial configeration.
Good Luck.

If this is just a regular DVD player, then no. You need an HD DVD player to play HD DVD discs. Now the HD DVD players should play regular DVD discs.

Toshiba D-VR650KU vcr/dvd video recorder

I talked to some very nice people at tech support 1-866-583-7353 and found out that my satellite reciever must be set to 480i, which of course is a pain since like I wanted High Definition. The composite a/v cables (red, white, yellow) are not high def and are part of the reason. I have TiVo and when recording a movie from TiVo to the DVD it states there as well to set the reciever at 480i. Once I did this I was able to record from the Sat to the DVD. I did a quick review and I couldn't find a combo set or just a dvd recorder that has component video cable (red, blue, green) or HDMI inputs at all, I'm thinking that all would have to be recorded at 480i.
