I can hear the motor but it is not spinning. clothes are wet. I used to be able just to run the spin cycle twice and it would work but now it doesn't spin at all. Help!

Machine fills with water, but won't drain or agitate.

  • dnedrow Feb 20, 2009

Excellent! Didn't spin at all but when I turned the inner drum clockwise it had a very strong spin and good speed. When I retried the spin cycle it worked at what seems to be normal speed each time. Could it be that it was stuck or jammed or something? I took the couplings out earlier but they were fine and it does agitate. Great advice. Thanks.

I have the same problem, yet mine won't spin even a little while holding the switch down in spin cycle. I guess the tranny is burnt up?

It drains, agitates, fills and empties..but no spin.

You may either have a broken motor coupler (connects the motor to the transmission) or the clutch/brake assembly is slipping. To test the motor coupler start a cycle, if it fills and agitates, the coupler is ok.
You can check the clutch/brake by selecting the spin cycle, open the lid and press the lid switch down using a pen. When the motor starts check for either a very slow spin or give it a boost by pushing the inner drum clockwise and see if it picks up any speed. If it spins just a little, the clutch/ brake assembly is slipping and will need to be replaced.

"Could it be that it was stuck or jammed or something?"

It could be brake dust or oil contamination from the transmission on the clutch/brake which would cause it to slip.
It would slip more with a big load from the weight of the clothes.
Did you notice any oil residue on the transmission underneath? The transmission (gearcase) usually has a 10 year warranty.

    Glad I could help :)

Thanks for all the helpful comments. My problem was solved, when I was just ready to call a repair person. All of a sudden it started working. I am not sure what caused it to work again. I had put in a large heavy load, which seems to have messed up the clutch/brake operation. I emptied it and twisted and jiggled the agitator, shook the machine a bit, and let it warm up (we had been renovating, so machine was in the cold garage for a few days).
Thanks again for the suggestions.

Kenmore 80 series washer model 110 doesn't fully drain when cycle complete

With the lid open, try to turn tub by hand. If you can you may have a bad clutch. If you hear the washer agitating at the begining of the cycle without any water and filling at the end of the cycle, replace the ATC switch. Try spin cycle and open the lid, if you don't see the tub turning, but hear the motor, check motor coupler, or if it never spins after you close lid, check lid switch. These are the most common solutions to this complaint.

Kenmore warsher, Model num 110.14202300, not drain or spin

The clothes too wet after spin cycle tells me that the water ump is functioning. If it wasn't, there would still be lots of water in the machine when the cycle ended. These Kenmores have the water pump mounted on one side of the electric drive motor and the transmission, drive shaft, and agitator on the other side. The transmission is fastened to the motor by a "coupler", a three piece assy that often breaks. This common failure allows the machine to complete a cycle, however, because of the broken coupler, there is no drive to the tub and no spin or agitate. The clothes seem wet because the spin motion is supposed to provide the force to extract the excess moisture. Leave the lid open and verify that there is no agitate or spin.(During spin cycle use a pen to press down on the safety interlock, a small opening on the the of the machine, toollow the unit to spin with the lid open). If you verify this, flip the machine over and locate the coulper on one side of the motor. One side will be cracked along the shaft. Sears parts stores carry the coupler in stock. ($18.50) Hope this helps.

Kenmore Series 80 washer NO High Speed Spin

It could be a timer, motor or wiring problem. You would need to check for 110 volts at the timer or motor when in the higher spin mode. If you are getting 110v you have a bad motor. No or low volts you have a bad timer. The motor is either a 2 or 3 speed motor and you would have to determine which winding to check for the 110v. The schematic is usually glued to the inside rear cabinet. Please rate this post.

Kenmore washer series 80, Clothes still soapy

If you are getting no water spray during the rinse cycle that would cause the soapy clothes issue.

Are you getting cold water during the wash/rinse cycles? If you have the machine set to warm/warm you may only be getting hot water while the final spin is calling for cold.

If you have cold water available then the timer is not calling for the water spray. The problem is either in the mixing valve or the timer.

If it goes through the complete cycle o.k. except for the slow spin then the motor itself needs to be checked.
