Question about Acer 22" X223w LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Will my monitor cause shut down problems with Vista? Sometimes Windows will not shut down. My tech said it runs and passes test for him. He suggested it may be something I am plugging into the pc at home. What do you think?

Always include the version of Windows in your posts.
Could have been a RAM problem if you got 4 beeps and you seem to have resolved that by reseating the modules. But the RAM error may have caused some corruption to a file on the hard drive.
Assuming the diagnostics pass, you can reboot and press F8 before Windows starts to load. Select Last Known Good. If that gets you to the desktop without errors, shut down normally and reboot normally, and you should be good to go.
You may also want to run chkdsk on the hard drive:
Click: Start>run
Type in: chkdsk C:
Click OK
Accept the offer to run chkdsk at next boot and then reboot. chkdsk will run before Windows loads. It may take a long time, depending on size of your hard drive, so be patient.

Windows shuts down unexpectedly

This problem has been solved. There was intermittent contact inside the power switch on the front of the case causing the motherboard to issue a shut-down request to the operating system. Switch replaced and system is now stable.

The laptop seems to work completely fine often for several hours sometimes only for about 20 minutes and then with no warning it just shuts down. Have reinstalled OS and am using fan tray to guard against...

Identical Problem here, I Managed to make it do it much less frequently by placing on a flat hard, surface and only moving it once in a while, if you listen carefully most people who have this problem hear the fans go a little faster for a second before it shuts down, it has been reported to be solved by buying a new charger that is from the same brand as your original

Regarding games...

There are a lot of bugs in the beta version of vista. New drivers or premature older video card drivers may not work very well with some games.

go into the control panel->administrative tools and open "event viewer", look for logs at the time your computer shut down and it might suggest for a possible cause.

To add to that a new service pack is already out for vista. These usually come out after all the minor fixes pile up to a certain amount.

i would recommend you update all the drivers and if that does not work you should look into getting a final version of vista.

Windows xp runs faster than vista for games in my opinion.

Display problem

A fuzzy display is not likely to by caused by programs on your computer. Is this an LCD flat panel monitor or a regular CRT monitor?? If it's a CRT, the problem could be with the high-voltage power supply, which would need to be diagnosed by an experienced computer1.gif or electronics technician.

Check to see if there is a small focus knob on the back. If so try turning it back and forth three or four times to "clean" it....then adjust for correct focus.

Symptoms like this can also be caused by accumulated dust inside the monitor.

No driver appearing in Vista

Sorry this is late but:

Unplug the monitor from the PC and then boot.
after you hear the windows starting sound wait for it to load everything up (say 1 min) and plug in the monitor

Windows then plays the "i have found an unknown device" sound and begins to search for drivers

Wait 5 min for it to do this and then shut down the computer with the power button.
Re boot

Monitor should work.

Note: you must be connected to the net for this to work.

Need help think i may need a motherboard

If the the laptop is failing to boot very early in the4 boot sequence, then this usually points to a failure somewhere on the motherboard. There are a few test you can run to try. 1) Try downloading the following Diagnostic program and running it on your computer. The download makes a bootable CD, and you can try running a bunch of diagnostics on your computer with out having to boot into Windows. You can test memory, the hard drive, and other things. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ 2) Try replacing the memory. Sometimes bad memory can cause a device not to boot. 3) If neither of the above suggestions work, then I'm afraid you will need a new motherboard.
