No shorts??? hmm well just to be sure take both hands and start mangling with the cord work your way up and if your controller reconnects when your doing this you will need to replace the chord. unplug your chord from your console blow in the USB circut where your controller plugs in there might be dust in the plug in blow in it really hard and pliug it back in if that doesent work plug it back in go to your controller USB settings and see if it has a signal from the chord Hope that helps:)

  1. When the lights surrounding the power button on the console stop flashing, the controller is connected.
On the Xbox 360 S console, each connected controller is assigned to one of four positions. Each position corresponds to a lighted section around the console power button and the controller Guide button. On the 360 E console, a solid green light on the front of the console indicates that the controller is connected. To determine the player position associated with your accessory, look at the ring of light that surrounds the Guide button on the controller.

You can also use the Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit or the Xbox 360 Quick Charge Kit to power the controller. Learn more about Xbox controllers and chargers.
To connect additional controllers, follow these same steps again. You can connect up to four controllers to the console. Each connected controller is assigned a position that corresponds with the lighted sections that appear around the console's power button and around the Guide button located in the middle of each controller.
  • To disconnect a wireless controller, press and hold the Guide button for three seconds, and then choose to turn the controller off.
  • When you turn off the console, the controller will reconnect the next time you turn on the console.
  • The controller can be connected to only one console at a time. You can connect the controller to a different console, but the connection to the previously connected console will be lost.

Dear kakaixero,
The USB port on your XBOX may have experienced short circuit when your dogs ran over it. Just to make sure, try connecting some other device (such as the racing wheel) and see if it works. If it doesn't,take your XBOX to the nearest service point and ask them to replace it. Act like it's not your fault and you might actually get a new xbox!

Hello Danial,

Someone on FixYa had the same problem with the username of "Viphunk". I've never encountered this problem when using an Xbox 360 controller for the PC. Viphunk mentioned that he "accessed his control panel" and fixed it. Maybe one of your controllers are configured, and one is not. I imagine you would do the following, but I'm not guarenteed.

1. Locate Start, and click "Control Panel".
2. Once at the Control Panel menu, double click "Game Controllers".
3. (Guess)-Click the name of the controller you are currently using, and click "properties".
4. You might find something in there that has your answer, or of course go back to Control Panel screen, and click "Sounds and Audio Devices, and explore in there.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.

I can't help you much since i can't physically fiddle with it, but my best guess would be either a damaged USB port or the USB connector on the controller is damaged.

If you are on windows 7 go to control panel and search for "game" one of the top results should be "Set up USB game controllers". Go there, select the 360 controller from the list, and hit properties. In the settings tab there should be the option to calibrate it, do so. That should stop the controller acting like you are pressing things when you aren't.

Xbox 360 wired controller glows green for 2 secs then shuts off

Microsoft software is usually very good about finding mods within their systems. Since you have repaired a wire, it might somehow think it's been modded.

Double-check your repair work, if you used a soldering iron, it could have attached to another wire -causing a short (faking a mod). If you just twisted and taped it, you might want to consider a better fix.

My new *WIRED* Xbox 360 Controller just blinks!!! *HELP*

Wireless:Mostlikey a battery issue or sync issue..
Wired:mostlikey a bad cable..
Wireless with cable:mostlikey a battery or sync issue or cable..

Unknown fact. Controller wires are ment to fail as to make more profits.. How you might ask.. if you have a old wire try stripping off the plastic and the fibermesh wire protecting that four wires are presnt a white and green wires which are for sync and control, and black and red for + and - power imput/output for charging/powering the controler.. What microsoft dosent want you to know is the black and red wires they make 2cm shorter then the green and white.(Note: This has been proven through over 45 wire checks over the past year.)

This causes the wires to rather break over a time through any number of ways the wires handled.. or to burn out through a short in the wires.. most of the time frying your controller in the process. Only solution to extend wire lifetime: Hang the wire strait in a vertical line off of something for example a wall or door.. the usb plug is fine but the problem area is between the "knot" and controller mount on the opposite end of the wire. solution #2: Dont buy wires.. battery packs and battery charge stations are cheaper in the end. Sync the controller. Press and hold the sync button on the controller, and go over to the Xbox 360 console, and press and hold the Xbox 360 console sync button. Wait for a few seconds or until the controller lights stop blinking. Then test out the controller.
