Grinding Cooling Fan

My RCA receiver, model # RT2870, Has a grinding cooling fan. When I turn the unit on it makes this noise for about 20 mins then will slowly go away. It is very annoying so I'd appreciate if I could get some help mayb with how to fully clean or oil, or where I could buy a replacement fan. Thanks

I would remove top cover and see how easily accessible the fan is it shouldnt be too hard. Once removed check out the specifications on it as far as current and DC voltages and most likely you can find one at roadioshack website and order one for under 10 dollars. You cannot oil these. You spray oil on it then when fan turns on it will spray intire inside of you receiver with oil not a good idea. I hope this helps. Good luck

Most likely the cooling fan bearings are going out meaning that you need a new box. Dish should send you one at no charge unless it was a purchased box from a 3 party.

This is normal, the noise you here is most likely ice build up on the condenser coils. when the outside temperature is under around 15c ice will build up on the condenser coils it then falls and hits the fan blades. this will also happen if the unit has been running for a while. there is no need to spay water into the unit as this can cause damage to the electrical components.

I have a same exact problem in my RT2870. This is probably one of the cooling fans going bad. Does anyone know where to get the replacement fan and/or how hard would it be to replace it?

Bulb went out for the 2nd time in less than a year on Mitsubishi WD52327. Also making a loud grinding noise. What is my problem?

the grinding noise is from the cooling fan that cools the bulb. It needs to cleaned or replaced. You will need to take the back cover off the set to get at it. If the cooling fan is not doing its job that would cause the short bulb life and the noise

Normally a sound like this is vibration or the fan making contact with the casing. If you pick up on the unit a press on it in different places and the sound goes away it i vibration. If its the fan there will be evidence on the edges of the fan blade. You can also turn off the power and slowly turn the fan and see if it hits. Just remember sometimes just moving the unit around will make a nois start or stop. good luck

Take the computer to a qualified technician, for professional trouble-shooting (failing bearings in a cooling-fan, or a disk-drive about to die).

RCA RT2870 home theater system 'welcome' screen

Well, I just returned the unit. RCA replied with the following solution:
Let the unit sit with the AC power cord out of the wall for a couple of
hours. Then hit the power button 10-15 times (with the AC power cord still
out of the wall socket!) and then try again.
