Teac p-55 shuts down and restarts after loading disc

Teac P55 with Verity Copy Disc Platinum and True Net software.

After sending a graphic from the truenet software the verity loads the disc onto the tray of the teac, the teac door closes and about 5 seconds later, it makes a sound likes it's rebooting the system and then the screen says, "warming up" and then "ready."

you can view a video of the problem at;

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Based on your description of the problem, I am tempted to suspect a power supply issue, specifically an intermittent undervoltage. This could be brought about by fluctuating mains or a leaky capacitor in the internal power supply unit. I doubt if the printer engine or any of its component is faulty or if it could be a driver/software issue. If it were, then the error light would be lit. Additionally, the symptoms indicate that the unit performed a soft reboot and therefore started to perform a 'warming up' mode again.

Initially, you can try:

  • ensuring both the exhaust and intake fans are ventilating the Teac unit,
  • the intake filter is clean;
  • and/or power/plug the Teach through a suitable voltage regulator and/or UPS rather than straight to the mains.
Being a mission critical equipment in your production, I would not suggest component level repair but rather a full replacement of the power supply should that be deemed faulty. A way to check the power supply is to monitor the output voltages using DVMs. If the voltage drops prior to the fault, then you have just confirmed the undervoltage condition. A service manual would be to your advantage or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Stupid question: are you trying to use a PC floppy drive to read PC floppy disks on a Mac? I don't think this kind of operation would have a positive outcome....

My Teac 1x1 dvd/d11A/kit burner/Dvw/D11A: will not copy Dvd, keep getting the message: "target drive not ready". Unit copies cd's alright.

whatever software you are using to burn dvd;s, make sure the right burner drive is selected. if it is selected properly and still having an issue. that means the dvd writer is busted and can't detect a blank disc place into it. in that case, have it replaced.

This is a faulty loading motor. you will need to replace the entire optical lens assembly in this case. the motor is part of the assembly.
