Pentium 3 is a very old system. you will probably wont find one on sale. its hard to find even a pentium 4 this days. an intel dual core system is very cheap this days so buying a system as old a a P3 makes no sense. you can also buy an AMD based setup. for very low prices. if you still wish to buy a pentium 3 system i do not know of a place that sells those setups.

Intel Processor Benchmark

I cant find a benchmark but virtually any core 2 duo wipes the floor with a pentium d processor. The pentium d line of cpu's was completely replaced by the more powerful core 2 duo line of cpu's

Upgrade from pentium 915 D to dual core

The pentium d 915 is a dual core processor, albeit a bad one. You should check google for info on your motherboard to see if it supports Core 2 duo's/ Core 2 quads. I have an E6600 overclocked to 3.0ghz and it still plays games perfectly paired with my 8800gt 512mb and 4gb's ram. I definately recommend upgrading to a core 2 duo. I used to have a pentium d 915 and it was bad for gaming and the e6600 blows it out of the water. You most likely wont find the e6600 anywhere as it is nearly 3 years old. Look at sites such as toms hardware to find a good core 2 duo.

Good luck- an t-adh leat!

I have dell pentium 3.ram is 256 and i want to install 1 gb ram does it work in my cpu.

cpu does not choose the RAM , its the motherboard that you should look into.  if you can give us the exact model of your dell pc, or better yet the Exact model of your motherboard, we can easily tell you if its supported... usually Pentium 3 computers use SDRAM modules

My pc is extremely slow, I have even formatted and instal a new version of Windows Xp service pack 2 to my PC pentium-3 with 256 RAM but there is still no change. Need some one to help me out.

slow pc is the cause of many problems.
1=firstly,use disk cleanup.
2=secondly,regularly defragment your hard disk.
3=thirdly,try to switch over to pentium 4 3.0 Ghz or intel core 2 duo.
4=at last,change your motherboard to ddr2 Ram supporting Board.

Processor

Not showing on the screen in the sense, is the Operating System [assuming XP] system properties window not showing the processor details? If its the case, generally some processors will have some issues with the Operating system.You can fix it by downloading some "hot fixes" from Microsoft.
Try this: 1.Open the "run" dialog box [Windows key + R] 2.Type "dxdiag" [without quotes] 3.Press enter. 4.You will be able to see the processor configuration in that window.
If not succesfull, please post. I will suggest another method.

UpGrade

you could only upgrade the processor and RAM in this condition i.e.

you can only change your an upgraded p-III processor like 1.0 GHz, 1.1 GHz or 1.3GHz and
upgrade the RAM by changing to 256 in each slot.

that is all what u can do with ur pc

Upgrading my processor without changing my motherboard

A pentium 3 processor is probably in a Socket 370 socket.

None of the current processors would fit in this socket, so you would want to look at second-hand computer stores / markets or maybe in your local classifieds.

It might be worth checking what speed processors your motherboard can support up too before buying one.
