When facing the deck, the feed reel goes on the left and the take-up reel goes on the right. Make sure to secure each reel by engaging the reel locks on each of the spindles. Place the feed reel with the free end of the tape on the left and hanging downwards (like the letter "P"). Pass the tape to the right of the tension spindle (which is above and to the left of the play/record heads unit. Pull the tape down and pass it underneath the heads from left to right. Then on the right hand side of the heads unit pass the tape between the guide wheel and the first guide spindle to its left and just above. Then pass the tape over the top of the second guide spindle. Finally, loop the tape under the right hand tension spindle and pull it up and feed onto the take-up reel from the right in an anticlockwise direction (like the letter "g"). Once you have it through the slot in the centre of the reel, hold the tape end there with your finger and wind the reel around a few times to hold the tape in place and ... Voila!

In general, outs to ins.

If nothing else, get the manuals for the preamp and the EQ. You'll probably have to pay for them.

Google it.

Akai PR-A04 preamplifier << This is the control center and where everything comes together.

Akai AP-D210 turntable (ONLY to jacks that say "PHONO"
Akai EA-G40 Stereo Graphic Equalizer (in the Tape 1 Out/In set)
Akai CS-F14 Stereo cassette deck (in the Tape Out/In set of the EQUALIZER) *
Akai AT-K110 Fm Am Tuner (to the Tuner inputs)
Akai DT-100 Audio Tuner (to the Aux inputs)
Akai PA-W04 Amplfier (to the amp outputs)

* This will allow you to Equalize the Tape on the Record or the Playback side.

Read some audio magazines or websites. Get to understand Tape Monitor Loops.

Don't use excessive EQ.

I OWN A AKAI 4000DS MK2 REEL TO REEL TAPE RECORDER, IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONVERT MY TAPES TO DIGITAL. WHAT WILL I NEED? THANK YOU

All you need is to connect the Tape deck via a lead to the audio input of your computer. You can then get a audio recording software (I use and recomend Dan Das Digital Audio Editor). It will record the audio and then you can save it to any number of audio formats. There are some basic processing functions on most Audio Editors, but for more advance features get Audio Cleaning Lab, by Magix. You can record direct with this software. But it's easier to import files into it, due to the fact that they have made the cutting functions complex to use, but the special features easy!

When playing a tape there is a clicking noise, its very fast (think running past a chain link fence and holding a stick against it) the tape will play, and will pop out fine, but the clicking noise is...

Something is inside the cassette well. Or one of the reels is slipping. Reach in and manually rotate each reel hub to see if you can feel any reason for a click.

RCA REEL MEDIA CENTER- NEED REELS

The RCA Reel Media Center was made by Polyconcept USA, however their website has been down since 2008, so they may have gone bankrupt, or gone out of business.
As for the reels, you can use Nagra 1/8" reels wich has the same tape width, but the hub is different, so you will need to make your own hub adaptor.
I found a seller on Ebay selling blank 1/8" Nagra tapes: Link

The gearing and rubber parts involved in FF or REW vs. play are different. This unit should be overhauled and all of the rubber parts replaced.

well fuses are at the power supply sections and if the tape was jamed inside the deck, just disconnect the plug and try to take-off the case/cover of your unit but before opening it wait for about 1-2 hours to discharge the capasitors and then disassymble your unit try to get the tape deck and then get a knife a scissor, something to cut the tape inside the deck, thats the best solution, but you won't get your tape back though even when you get your tape uncut well, when you play it again you will not get good sound.

maybe your tape deck have a problems, maybe a broken gears, a belt was snaped, or a relay is the main problem.

its better to observe your unit first before you play a tape again.

ok? hope you could get your system back in good condition and have a good day.

Old Stero Console

Does FM work? If so, I would expect AM to work also. Old AM circuits are pretty resilient. If you rotate the tuning dial in AM mode, can you hear distinct changes in the sound (noise) coming from the speaker(s)? I'm thinking there's no wire attached to the AM antenna on the back. Without the antenna, you might not get any audio output.
