Question about E-Machines T4480 PC Desktop

1 Answer

XP Home on e-Machine now faulty after turning on 'Guest Account'

My home network has a HP d530 (XP Pro sp3), an E-Machines T4480 (XP Home sp3), & a D-link (wired) router. The HP has always been able to see & manipulate any area / file on the T4480, but the T4480 (XP Home) could never 'see' the HP (XP Pro) in Network Places, nor acess it. I was advised I had to turn on the XP Home 'Guest Account'. It could now see the HP, but now the T4480 goes in to 'permanant hourglass' mode whenever I click on any of it's desktop Icons when I'm working at its' physical location. I have to reboot & then I get a 'Windows Explorer unable to end' error msg.

help ?

Sorry, no Norton of any type on any machine.

    :-\

BTW, isn't there a 'repair' choice when you put the XP Home CD to install ?

Can I use my E-machine Restore CD ?

    Suggestion
Do you have Norton install on either one of these machines. If so you
need to turn it off and see if it works.

A good way to avoid problems with net access is to put the same OS on all machines, setting all accesses identically.

I cannot install ethernet driver of hp compaq d530. Where can i find it?

Hello: I hope the following information is helpful.
If you are trying to install the driver for the Broadcom ethernet NIC that was pre-installed (NOT an ethernet card that you purchased and installed yourself), there is a softpack (updated driver installation) download available from HP/Compaq. It will install the driver automatically for you, just download it from the link below and run the ".exe" file.
IMPORTANT: Check to be sure that your current Operating System, and model of the network device you are trying to install, are BOTH listed below BEFORE you download!
This is a software / driver update for the HP Compaq d530 ultra-slim desktop: All Models
Supported network devices:
BCM5906M Broadcom 10/100/1000 5782 based NIC Broadcom 570x 10/100 Integrated controller Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet 5782 Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet PCI-Express NetXtreme(tm) 10/100/1000 Gb NIC
Supported Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 2000 Microsoft Windows 98 Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Microsoft Windows Vista Business 32 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Business 64 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise 32 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise 64 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic 32 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic 64 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Starter 32 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32 Edition Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Edition Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Microsoft Windows XP Professional Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 EditionINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved). 2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.LINK where file can be downloaded:HP/Compaq Support-Broadcom Driver download
Again, I hope this information is what you neededto install your network device. Should this not answer your question, please come back, provide more details of your problem, and we will be happy to help!Best of luck to you!

I have a samsung 3600 bluray player that is supposed to stream files and movies from your pc to the tv through the player,,,,,,,it has a wireless dongle but it will not pair up with the pc ...it does find...

Getting the File Sharing capabilities to work properly on this player can be a bit of a trick. Unlike a lot of devices out there which support network playback by means of a UPnP (DLNA Compatible) Server, this player uses Windows or SMB (Samba) File sharing.
The player has issues with what microsoft calls "Simple File Sharing", which, unfortunately, is one of the limitations of XP Home and Media Center Edition. The Key difference between "Simple" and "Advanced" File Sharing in Windows, is credentials. When you enable simple file sharing, all clients connect using the "Guest" account. You cannot control access to shares on a per-user basis, if "simple" file sharing is enabled, it's all or no one.
Also, if you have the "Guest" account disabled on your XP machine, your BluRay player will not be able to connect to it using the guest account. If you aren't too concerned about carefully controlling security on your local network and machine, go ahead and try activating the guest account to see if this resolves your issue.
Otherwise, I suggest upgrading to XP Pro, Vista, or 7 - if you want to stay in the Windows World.
Linux is also an option; the Samba packages will allow you to use windows-compatible file and print sharing. I personally run a Linux file server at home, which I access with my BD-P3600. It took a bit of tweaking to get it to work properly though. As I did not want the BDP accessing everything on my file server, I created a special user account specifically for the player, with access only to the folders I want it to access for videos, music, and pictures.
A key thing, which may apply to you, was that I had to manually specify the path to the share. The player did not display shared folders as conveniently as they are displayed within Network Neighborhood in Windows.
The "Automatic Discovery" option didn't work, so I switched it to "manual", or "advanced". The manual method takes you through a series of dialog boxes asking you for the IP of your server, and for login credentials.
Simply enter the IP address of the computer sharing files that you wish to access. If prompted for a username and password, try entering "guest" for both. You could also try creating another account on your computer for the player to use. If you go that route, enter the credentials for that account, if prompted.
Good luck!

ok your problem is the home edition for some reason there are features that are missing compared to all xp versions and i'm a little surpise with vista because of none problems but check all your network settings on all computers but start with the home edition the pproblem one make sure the sttings areset and there are a few things that might not be turned on that has to be check under the add and remove program components but sometimes this area might request the os disk to make changes and also check under network settings that the log on in the network properities is client for microsoft networks then goto internet protocol the address should be obtain auto and very important under internet protocol click properties then advance then at the top click the tab at the top that say options then you will see tcp/ip filter click properties and make all checks are enabled and permit all which is the common for this to be turn off and also i like to make windows the wireless default control under the card configure properties.. but again the home edtion has some features that are not available compared to xp pro which is the best xp os of xp versions....

OS Matter

Nope.

Without the disk you cannot upgrade to Windows XP Pro, because both Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional are two different edition / version.

So if you want to upgrade your current operating system from Windows XP Home then you have to spend money to buy Windows XP Pro

But if you want to upgrade the Service Pack then you can very well do it.

Click the link below to download Windows XP SP3 for your edition and install it. Before installing it make sure you have turned off your security programs or better install it from the SafeMode
