Can't connect using wirless internet with dell inspiron 2200
I cannot connect to a wireless internet connection with my dell inspiron 2200. when i try to search for netwroks within range i get a message saying make sure your wireless switch on your laptop is switched on, where is my wireless switch?
Re: can't connect using wirless internet with dell...
There is no switch on an Inspiron 2200. I would go to Dell's website and download the drivers for your model # and then uninstall the existing adapter. then try installing the new driver and let me know what happens.

Click on the network icon in the task bar. Show the networks available and right click on the wireless network if it shows up. Try the 'repair' network selection. You can also 'remove' the wireless device and re-install it. If you use the command: "ipconfig /all" it will display all the connections and their settings. Normally windows will use the auto config 192.168.xx.xx series of IP addresses if it cannot find a DHCP server to issue it an address. That should show up in the ipconfig output in the wireless network device section. If the ipconfig does not show the wireless device, try the uninstall/re-install tactic. If this is a PC-card [PCMCIA] that you can physically remove, power down, remove the device, power back up. Power down again, install the card, power up. Windows might then 're-find' the device and reinstall all the necessary drivers. tom
Several resoning behind this one. One check your firewall setting, and make sure your wireless card have permission. Two, make sure that your mac filtering is turn off. Your wirless network has it own mac address and it is not in the router as to be aloud, it will block it. Three if your wireless network has a password, make sure you enter in right, it is case sensative. Four make certain that you have your wireless device is connected to the modem, or modem wireless combine. Finally, if you were running wired, try to clean the temperary ineternet filess off.
Possibly a bad wireless adapter in your laptop (wireless card) One way to check is to get an external LAN card that plugs into a USB port and see if that works. I had this same problem with a Compaq computer and this solved the problem for me... Good Luck
So u can connect to the router, but you arent allowet to access the internet?
The router gave your dell a new ip-number, but it dident gave you access to the net. You ned to do the settings in your router manual, let the router give your dell full access.
I would try reinstalling the wireless driver. To do this, goto start > control panel > system > hardware > device manager and find the driver listed under network controllers. Delete it and restart your computer, and the driver will reinstall itself (it will find new hardware). That may take care of your problem.
