That message usually means you are not connected to a "live" phone line. Make sure the line is "hot" -has dial tone. Be sure that you have the line plugged into the correct opening marked "input", not the one that you plug a phone into.
Good luck!

SOURCE: MFC-440CN PRINTER fax error

Plug a phone into the line and listen for static. Too many phones on the line, bad lines, etc, can cause a poor line condition. Try the unit directly into the phone line, no answer machine or anything else on the line. Maybe the memory thing is it has a lot of faxes that it hasn't been able to send.

SOURCE: using MagicJack for faxing; however, Brother MFC

I had the same problem trying to send out faxes out using my Brother MFC 7340. I use a magic jack phone line. Page 106 of the user manual says if sending via VOIP phone line, you should press menu, then 2, 0, 1 to select "Basic (for VOIP) mode. Then press ok. Then press stop/exit. This cuts the modem speed down to 9600 bps and turns ECM off. Then retry to send the fax. I did that and can now send and receive faxes.

SOURCE: my brother mfc-490cw I can't send or recieve faxes.

According to the User's Manual for the Brother MFC-490CW:

  • Poor Line Connection indicates an issue with your telephone line (Page 136). If you are sharing the fax line with any splitters or computers, try connecting the MFC-490CW directly to the phone jack and send a fax. If you are still getting a Poor Line Connection error message, call the telephone company and have a repair technician check your telephone line.

  • Out of Memory error message means the machine's memory is full (Page 138).

Try pressing Stop/Exit and wait until all current operations finish and try again.

Try clearing the data in memory. To gain extra memory space. turn off Memory Receive (See Page 48).

Try printing the faxes that are in memory (See Page 49).

  • System Busy error message wasn't in the manual, but I suspect it means there's a current operation in progress and the machine needs time to finish before moving on to another job. Just wait for the current job to finish, then try again.

SOURCE: NG: Poor Line Condition / Out Of Memory

This problem could be Phone line problem, or hardware failure or receiver's (the machine of the person whom you are sending the fax) machine problem and so on. First, let's check the line, if you have another Phone line, please dial from the number to your number, also, connect the currently connected line to a receiver and call a Land-line number, if the outgoing or incoming is ok, the proceed forward, otherwise, you telephone operator should check the line.

Sometimes, sending fax to a particular number doesn't work, to make sure, try sending a fax to another number.

If the line which is connected to the machine is extended from another machine such as Receiver, Switch, etc... unplug them and connect the fax machine directly to the Line.

It's also important to adjust the compatibility mode, to do this, follow the steps below:

  • Press Menu.
  • Press the up or down arrow key to select Fax.
  • Press OK.
  • Press the up or down arrow key to select Miscellaneous.
  • Press OK.
  • Press the up or down arrow key to select Compatibility.
  • Press the left or right arrow key to select Basic (for VoIP).
  • Press OK.
  • Press Stop/Exit.

If you place the scanning document/file on the auto-sheet feeder, you can help it pulling inside the passage or you can use the glass (flatbed) instead. Sometimes, this small mistakes with the sheet-feeder creates this problem. You can also clean the rollers inside the ADF (auto document feeder) passage.

If all of the above measure don't help, I would suggest you to call brother and seek their help. The rest is with mechanical or we can say hardware or firmware related issue. (use this form to contact Brother)

I wish you good luck.

Can't send fax. Getting transmission verification report stating NG: poor line condition/ out of memory. HELP!!

There are two possible reasons why your printer display the error message.

1. Poor Line Condition
- electrical interference on the line -Make sure electrical or electronic appliances do not interfere with the printer's phone line
- poor line connection - If you have a phone try connecting it directly to line outlet. Listen to the dial tone, if you hear noisy and static, then you will need to call your local telephone company cause there is a problem in your phone line. If dial tone is clear and stable then try checking the telephone line cord that you use to connect your printer from the line outlet, replace if broken.
- alarm system or another device on same line, these interferes with transmission / reception of the fax machine. Try connecting the printer all alone and then try sending a fax.

2. Memory Full
- There is no space to store incoming fax messages. Delete all stored fax messages.

Poor line condition / out of memory when attempting to send fax

That is a problem with your phone line. Get a line filter from Radio shack and install it between your wall socket and the fax. This should solve teh issue.

Mfc-9840cdw scan poor line condition out of memory - how can this be solved. i feel so dense because it appears your site has already offered solutions but i can't even find them there!

Hello,

Poor line condition / out of memory is almost always caused by poor line condition.
This is to say that there is a problem trying to send because the signal is not going through clearly enough.

This error can be due to either your fax machine or the receiving ends fax machine.

Try sending to other numbers as a test to see if it works for other numbers (you can use 1-866-685-8587 for the brother test line)

If you get the same error no matter who you send to, you may want to try another jack or telephone cable.
If you are using a splitter, try without the splitter.

Thanks,

Pat

Trying to send a fax error: Poor line condition/ Out of memory

Make sure by making a copy that your scanner is OK, streaks or black bands won't send properly and you need a new scan assembly, Poor line condition is just that, you need a better line or cable, If you go to fax settings and turn off error correction mode it sometimes helps as well.

Our MFC 7840 printer when faxing keeps saying

Depending on your location the line coulod well be poor quality for a sensitive fax. Any spurious sounds on a fax line will cause it to fault.
May I suggest you try the fax on the mainline first before assuming the unit is at fault.

Length of line from point a to b can also reduce the efficiency of signal. It may sound ok to the ear, but resistance may be the factor in reducing the level of the tone that the fax requires to hear and then activate send or receive. It reports poor line condition and even poor memory because it keeps loading to send.

If it does it on the mainline as well then I would be considering a technical call for help. There may be a fault in the unit.

please rwte my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA
