I noticed yellow oil under my Hoover 550m. It workes fine, but now and then it makes a strange noises in the spin cycle.Should i get someone to service it?

If your noticeing the yellow oil around the inside of the cabinet located about 4-6 inches up and the oil continues around the entire bottom of the unit. This is usually a sign that your transmission is starting to have some issues and leaking the oil that is inside of the transmission out as the unit spins. where are you noticeing this yellow oil on your unit? If you see this type of oil residue as I described In the location that i described above then your unit is soon to be in need of a new transmission. In the appliance repair world we term this oil ring described as the ring of death for the unit unless you wanted to install a new transmission into the unit I await your reply and further clarification on where this yellow ring of oil is that you are seeing. Thanks

Transmission oil leaks.

Depending on the age and general condition of the machine, it's possible that the transmission is leaking due to loose bolts on the case. Take the back off the machine and check the tightness of the bolts on the transmission case. They may just be loose.

If no luck, it could be the shaft seal in which case the transmission may need to be replaced. Try the above first.

Hotpoint vbxr1060 spins but won't agitate

OK, this oil is defiantly coming from a busted transmission(gear box). you will need to replace the gear box asap. the housing has failed. its cracked and leaking oil. This will damage the clutch and prevent the agitation effect. the gears will eventually lock up and damaged the drive assembly if not replaced soon.

Oil leak in washing machine

Sounds like the transmission is leaking. These transmission don't need to be full of oil to function. But, if it's leaking a lot, like tablespoons, it should be checked. It's not the end of the line. Just may need a service call if it's a plentiful leak.

Hotpoint washer top loading has oil dripping on the floor

The only place oil can be coming from is the transmission. If left as is, leaking oil will eventually result in full transmission failure. Yes, you can replace the transmission, but the repair is costly and moderately difficult. I'd save the expense and put the money toward a new machine. Please don't bother rating this solution as anything but a FixYa will drop my rating.
