Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We bought a refrige from Sears two years ago. And with the first one the light in the inside stayed on so much it melted the liner. So they replaced it for free. Now with the replacement it did the same thing and we just had a repair guy come out and say it was going to cost $350 dollars to fix. There is a problem here that we did not cause and we need a solution.

Call Sears and see if they had a recall on your fridge. Just replacing the part is not going to do any good. Sounds like there is a problem with the wiring causing the bulb to overheat and melt everything. So just replacing the bulb and the plastic will not solve your problem if that doesnt work by calling them, then contact the BBB.com and Sears will have to to keep there status good make it right with you

Do you recall if the door opened easier than normal that morning? its possible, but not likely, that the door was open, but its kind of hard to make those frech doors stay open even partially. you may have a bad light switch not shutting light off. is any of the plastic around the light bulb melted?
I have to think its something with the light bulb, since you say it was hot inside. thats a far cry from the not really cold i normally hear from my customers.

some french door fridges use a sort of finger mechanism located at the top outer corner of doors, if this breaks, the doors might not close easily by themselves, or worse, not stay open. without personal inspection, i cant give definitive answer

Inside lights do not go off when doors are closed

Good day,
All refrigerators have light switches, that depress and shut off the lights when the doors are closed.
First, make sure the bulbs are left out. I would replace all of the light switches because of the newness of the machine.
They are easy enough to replace, and you can purchase them at any appliance parts house or a Sears service facility.
They pry out, and may be destroyed on removal. Unplug the machine.
After connecting the wires, the new ones just push in.
To test, close the doors slowly. The lights should go out just before the door closes.

Some states have what is called "Implied warranty of serviceablity". Which means what should a consumer reasonably expect irregardless of the warranty limits.
You might want to contact Sears and express your opinions regarding this matter, and if they'll consider making you whole.
The above paragraph are my thoughts only. They in no way reflect the law, Sears policy or liability or this site's policy.

Lights stay on inside Sears (really LG) french door refrigerator

That should be a covered repair. There was a safety bulletin on that. Call Sears and complain. Tech should have known that.

The refrig. smell was on a JRSD209T sorry

Remove the food in the freezer , to a level , where you can remove the 2 screws holding the inside rear freezer panel , and remove the panel . At the bottom of the coils , is the defrost heater ( black rod piece ) . On the left AND right sides of the coils , down by the heater , check to see if the freezer liner is melted , due to the heat of the heater . This is a common problem for Maytag and Jen Air refrigerators , for the plastic to get hot . If this is so , then get 2 pieces of sheet metal , 4 " X 8 " , and slide in on both sides of the coils , to protect the liner permanently . If the liner sticks out , use a hair dryer to try and smooth out the plastic , to make it possible for the sheet metal to be slid into place .
On mine , I found 2 pieces of a lower dishwasher kick plate , and slid into place .

Water on floor of refrigator. Our refrigator is a Frigidaire Crown series model no. F44Q18CC. We have never had the ice maker hooked up sence we owned our refrigator. We bought it about 5 years ago. Lately...

Water collects INSIDE the refrigerator ? It is coming from the freezer. You have a plugged up defrost drain - look for a drain cup inside your refrigerator section agains the wall, this leads to a plastic tube that connects through the back wall of your refrigerator down a drain tube - see if you can remove this and with an object pass it through the drain tube to dislodge anything obstructing the water passage - if you do not have a drain cup in refrigerator then look in your freezer behind the panel you should see a drain hole below the evap fan, where the ice melts and drains through the tube - if this area is iced up or blocked water will overflow to your refrigerator through the cooling vents :)

Rust spots appearing on front of doors of kitchen (indoor) Kenmore refrigerator.

its what we in the business call "refrigerator cancer" they are rusting form the inside out. there is not repairing them and not worth the cost of replacing, you can take them off and spray them you might get a little time outta them. reason it happens is the insulation used years ago was fiberglass and would trap moisture between door and liner, eventually rusting through.. new refrigs are insulated with blown in poly-styrene. they don't hold moisture.
