Question about Dell Studio 17 Laptop

Blue screen purchased a Dell Studio 17 ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9150562&st=Dell+Studio+17&lp=5&type=product&cp=1&id=1218036668331 ) on Feb. 7th. A week later when starting up I get the blue screen that tells you there is an error and it's shutting down. It then goes into a black/grey screen that says there is a driver error or somethign like that, and gives you two options to click on...to try to resolve the issue or to start windows normally. Clicking the 2nd option doesn't get you anywhere but back to the blue screen and start the process over again. Clicking on the first brings you to System Startup Repair where it scans for the problem. It scans and scans and scans. Then tells you the c! omputer needs to be restored. You click to restore. It restarts and computer works. It did this a couple of times on my FIRST on then yesterday it just didn't do anything. So I took it in, and was just told ok we will just switch it out and give you a new one. Great! So I take it home, run through all the startups with a new computer, don't download anything additional in the way of additional software, etc. It does it's Windows updates, says that it needs to restart for the updates to work, it shuts down...and there comes the blue screen again. Same thing. Blue screen, to black screen with the two options, you click on the first find solution and fix, wait for it to scan, click restore (which since I haven't downloaded anything restores to the point when I got it yesterday and removes any websites I may have already started trying to rebuild in my saves, etc) ..and then it works. This is what the first ! one did after only owning for a week. What is causing this...why would I have TWO laptops in a week and a halfs time that is doing this? And appears to happen when Windows intalls an update??

I think I solved the same problem I was having with my Studio 17...also purchased at Best Buy. The problem was the same as you describe...blue screen after Windows update, stating a problem with my new camera software. After system restore, restoring to factory specs, virus scans...etc. the same problem kept occurring...at start-up I would get a blue screen. The only way I could get the computer to start was to remove the battery (while it was on doing it's scan), wait a few moments, replace it and turn on. For some reason it would finally get to the windows screen. Since it kept stating a problem with my camera software, I looked to see what programs begin at start-up and the Web-Cam software was one of them. I simply right clicked on the Web-Cam icon in the system tray and there are several choices all of which I de-selected (Start Web-Cam when Windows start....etc.) I have not had a problem since then. The Web-Cam still will work properly if you select it from your program list.

I have read several postings about this similar problem even on Dell and Best Buy's sites. I'm not sure if this will totally insure me of never having this problem again but, at least, right now it seems to be "the fix".

u the restore button again and get the computer to last time when it was working againg.
you can get the same by tapping F8 button on key board when you inicially see the dell logo ,while turning the computer on..

We will iupdate the windows in "safe mode with networking" mode so u will not get
blue screen again.
for getting "safe mode with networking" keep tapping F8 button while computer is just turning on and ur seeing dell logo.
After the updates are installed computer will restart properly..
i have worked as dell tech support guy at A5 level..
so am sure it would work..

My dell studio can not charge.


Make sure the battery is well seated in the laptop. If that doesn't work, the battery may be going bad and you will need a replacement. I've had to replace my Dell's battery twice since I got it about 4 years ago.

i had home premium and then i installed 7 ultimate 64 bit i got the same error...
go to boot menu and select hdd as first boot device

I have a dell studio 1745 laptop that is 13 month old. The display has very fine snow storm on it and there are fine lines going from left to right and slowly moving down the page. The colours are all...


This is due to loose connection which could happen after a period of time between the screen to the laptop.
Solution:
You can use another LCD screen as you secondary screen which you need to hook up to your laptop onto the blue connector (vga connection) or get the laptop screen replaced altogether

How do i access the function keys on the studio 17


I do not use studio but I do use Dell Inspiron.

In order to access the function keys look for a unique button on your keyboard. In my laptop its "Fn" its colored blue and the function buttons are also colored blue(they are underneath some other buttons), so if I want to access the functions button I have to hold the FN button and then press the switch that also has the function button.

For example:
1. the button "Q" has "F1" under it
2. So I have to hold FN and then press Q to access F1

This should be similar to your laptop

Normally above the keyboard where all the on/off buttons are, that face plate clips off and under there are screws to loosen the keyboard..

Dell Studio17 simply will not start up properly.


If you have a dell diagnostics utility CD, then boot it from CD and scan for hardware errors. If it detect anything, ask dell to replace it.
