Question about Dell Studio 17 Laptop

Purchased a Dell Studio 17 ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9150562&st=Dell+Studio+17&lp=5&type=product&cp=1&id=1218036668331 ) on Feb. 7th. A week later when starting up I get the blue screen that tells you there is an error and it's shutting down. It then goes into a black/grey screen that says there is a driver error or somethign like that, and gives you two options to click on...to try to resolve the issue or to start windows normally. Clicking the 2nd option doesn't get you anywhere but back to the blue screen and start the process over again. Clicking on the first brings you to System Startup Repair where it scans for the problem. It scans and scans and scans. Then tells you the c! omputer needs to be restored. You click to restore. It restarts and computer works. It did this a couple of times on my FIRST on then yesterday it just didn't do anything. So I took it in, and was just told ok we will just switch it out and give you a new one. Great! So I take it home, run through all the startups with a new computer, don't download anything additional in the way of additional software, etc. It does it's Windows updates, says that it needs to restart for the updates to work, it shuts down...and there comes the blue screen again. Same thing. Blue screen, to black screen with the two options, you click on the first find solution and fix, wait for it to scan, click restore (which since I haven't downloaded anything restores to the point when I got it yesterday and removes any websites I may have already started trying to rebuild in my saves, etc) ..and then it works. This is what the first ! one did after only owning for a week. What is causing this...why would I have TWO laptops in a week and a halfs time that is doing this? And appears to happen when Windows intalls an update??

    I have a very similar problem. Purchased the Dell Studio 17 from Best Buy in mid-Jan and when I rebooted after the initial Windows Update it gave me the blue screen then asked if I wanted to repair or restore. I restored to a previous block-point and was able to get it to boot, but periodically after that I get the same blue screen and have to go through the restore process one, two or three times before it will boot. The Best Buy Geeks told me to reimage the drive with the factory image (option in the advanced troubleshooting startup screen), but I get the same startup problem after I do a Windows Update. Must not be a prob with my laptop only. Don't know what to do.

    I also have the start up problem with the Dell 17 laptop windows vista.

    This is the second computer in two months with the exact issue.

    Is there a fix somewhere

U the restore button again and get the computer to last time when it was working againg.
you can get the same by tapping F8 button on key board when you inicially see the dell logo ,while turning the computer on..

We will iupdate the windows in "safe mode with networking" mode so u will not get
blue screen again.
for getting "safe mode with networking" keep tapping F8 button while computer is just turning on and ur seeing dell logo.
After the updates are installed computer will restart properly..
i have worked as dell tech support guy at A5 level..
so am sure it would work..

there is no such thing as a free download of a microsoft product
you may get a disc for win 8 but to make it work you will have to buy the licence to register it and that is as costly as buying the disc to start with
the only free operating systems are LINUX--ubantu and it is far better than microsoft when you get the hang of uing it

How to enable bluetooth


Your computer has to have a bluetooth radio. You can check
Control Panel > System and Security > Device Manager
Do you see a Bluetooth Radio listed?

If not, you don't have BlueTooth on your computer so you will have to add a BlueTooth device by plugging one into a USB port.

If you have a BlueTooth radio, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device and Printers > Add a Bluetooth Device

This option is used to connect a blue tooth device (e.g. bluetooth headphons) to your laptop through your bluetooth radio.

Exact OEM replacement remote you can try the manufacturer or www.replacementremotes.com. No store will carry what you are looking for, but you can find universal remotes in any electronic store on the planet. Wal-mart, RadioShack, BestBuy, etc. Whatever is closest to your location. Good rule of thumb is if they sell TVs, they sell universal remotes.

I can receive email on yahoo, but can not forward anything from my email account with yahoo

You will need to check your outgoing smtp settings in yahoo. Below is the information to set this up.
1) Yahoo! Mail Settings (if allowed)

Yahoo Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.mail.yahoo.com (port 110)
Yahoo Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.mail.yahoo.com (port 25)

2) Yahoo! Mail Plus email server settings
Yahoo Plus Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 995)
Yahoo Plus Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 465, use authentication)

Freezes on the warm boot screen MC9000


This can be for a number of reasons.

First thing would be to try and cold boot the device:-

Remove battery half way, hold power button and trigger, push battery in fully until click and then release power and trigger

If that fails next thing would be to try and re-flash the operating system. This is done by using an SD card and loading the latest operating files onto it. The SD card slot is located under the keypad. A cross head screwdriver is required to remove the keypad. Search on symbol software download site for the latest. The download also has a readme with detailed instructions. Once the files are on perform a cold boot.

Remove battery half way, hold power button and trigger, push battery in fully until click and then release power and trigger. Drop the terminal in a cradle so that it runs on external power.
