Question about Samsung SMH7174BC Microwave Oven

I purchased my microwave 3 years ago. We have problems with the magnetron.I had a house fire and lost my bill of sale but sent in the warranty card to Samsung after purchase. Do you have a number to contact at samsung to follow up on the warranty card.Do you have to have your bill of sale. dusty pool

Sorry to disappoint you, unless you took out specific insurance the magnetrons are not covered by warranty

I would contact Panasonic about this and tell them your story.

That is one way it can happen, but things just fail, too.

Otherwise, we servicers would not be in business.

You do need to be sure there is no grease or food particles stuck to the inside of the oven or stuck on or behind the waveguide cover.

SOURCE: Need replacement microwave to fit existing trim kit

Finally built up the courage to call GE Appliance number and weave my way through the phone menu system. Pressed the right menu option (sales) to speak to someone about trim kits. Found out that the trim kit model number is JX1527MWW. Then called back to select a different menu option (other) and learned from someone else that since the trim kit model is more than 1-2 years old, there's a slim-to-none chance any new microwave models will work with it, and even if there was they couldn't easily cross-reference against a model that old to tell me which one (or something to that effect). So I hit a dead end. Only option for me at this point is to buy a new microwave with new trim kit.

(Personal note: I think the trim kit business is a racket, in bed with the microwave manufacturers. Why else would there be no standard dimensions for microwaves by now--like refrigerators have--and why is it a few pieces of sheet metal cost over $150? Pretty convenient that every microwave model needs its own trim kit model!)

Why won't my microwave heat up?


Try putting in a glass mug of water. Put the microwave on full power for two minutes. If the light comes on and everything looks like it should be heating the water, but at the end of the two minutes the water is cold or is only luke warm, then it looks like the device that generates the microwaves is not working. Check your warranty it could be two years or more for parts etc. If it is only a year then this could be an expensive repair. You might want to consider the cost of a new microwave against the originally cost of the current model and a repair. Or ask the repair shop for a quote.

Hmv9305/01 microwave @ 13months old the magnetron blew, authorized bosch repairman, replaced using bosch magnetron. warranty for 90 days jan of 2011 same problem, why does this happen? should i ditch...


With all due respect, what are you doing to it?
If you use it with nothing in the cavity, that will kill the magnetron otherwise it will last for years and years.
Very unusual and Bosch is a well respected name.
If there is a probem with the oven, Bosch will replace it so take it up with Bosch.

Microwave does not heat if time is less than 1 min 30 seconds


Generally speaking, charcoal filters should be changed and grease filters should be cleaned about every six months, or whenever you notice they are getting dirty & clogged. Yours will likely have one or the other - probably not both - depending on whether it's vented or it recirculates.

A clogged filter will cause the supply of cooling air flow to be lessened, allowing the magnetron to overheat. It only takes one severe overheating to damage or destroy a magnetron.

One common way for a magnetron to fail is that its heating power is less and less, then it just stops heating.

Magnetron's will usually have a warranty of 5-9 years, but you'd still have to pay the installation labor.

You can save a $75-90 home visit by removing the oven form the wall and taking it to a local Whirlpool-authorized warranty servicer.

The date of manufacture will be on the model tag in the unit, and the warranty terms will be in the owner's manual. Many manufacturers will use the serial number and date of manufacture to validate the warranty in lieu of a sales receipt.

I have GE microwave with a failed Magnetron. It is emitting large sparks. Upon removing the magnetron I found that the sparks left residue where they are leaking from the cylindrical shaped piece on the end of the Magnetron.

The Magnetron is under warranty.

BUT

GE WILL NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY AND SEND A MAGNETRON.
GE HAS SENT OUT HUNDREDS OF MAGNETRONS TO CUSTOMERS - SEARCH ONLINE TO SEE THIS IS TRUE.

I called GE PARTS, GE support and GE consumer relations department. They changed their policy two weeks ago and require a service technician to replace the part.

THE COST IS $220 FOR THE REPAIR TECHNICIAN.

Since I already removed the part the service technician would have to put in 3 screws and plug in the cable...FOR $220...I PAID $229 FOR THE MICROWAVE NEW!!!!

DO NOT BUY GE.
DO NOT BUY GENERAL ELECTRIC.

GE DOES NOT SUPPORT IT'S WARRANTIES UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY THE SAME AMOUNT THAT YOU PAID FOR THE PRODUCT!!

My microwave oven isn't heating my food. Everything else works, the fan, the lights and the keypad. The microwave turns and sounds like everything is working but the food won't get hot. It is only 6 months...


This is typical of a failed magnetron: the part which actually supplies the microwaves.

By their very nature magnetrons can fail without warning from the day of manufacture but the vast majority do last longer than the manufacturer's warranty. I have noticed a trend towards more frequent premature failure with increasingly powerful ovens.

If the magnetron has failed then there is nothing you can do to fix this as it must be replaced. It's also typically the most expensive single component in most ovens so is rarely an economic repair.

Your appliance should still be within the manufacturer's warranty so you should follow their advice regarding getting the oven repaired. If you're in the UK then you have Sale of Goods Act protection for up to six years from the purchase date and if you wish can insist that the retailer replaces the oven or refunds your money as the goods were not "of satisfactory quality".

Frigidaire Professional series microwave won't heat


The most likely problem is the magnetron. Check your warranty in owners manual, I believe you have five year warranty on magnetron.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part (such as a shorted diode)

Microwave not working, please suggest


Your magnetron tube has failed. According to the warranty on the Profile Series microwave ovens, the magnetron is covered for 5 years from the date of purchase, but labor is not included. I would call GE Customer Service and when they ask for the model number (which begins with JVM) and the serial number, be sure to give the date of purchase as the date you closed on your house. If they insist upon charging you for a service call and labor, I would call my builder's Customer Service Department and demand (very nicely) that they intervene with GE to waive the service and labor charges. That worked for me (Lennar Homes).
