Question about LG DLE2512W Electric Dryer

Open Question

Cracked Drum on LG Dryer... is there a newer drum available?

I have a cracked drum on an LG DLE2514W and need to replace it. The replacement part is 3045EL1002D but I was wondering if 3045EL1002E or 3045EL1002F were newer versions of the drum that are stronger or have better welds. I would like to replace it once and not have to do it again.

Thanks,
Mark

LG DLE2514W. I have the same problem with a 3.5 yr old dryer. Cracked at the weld. LG will not stand by their product. The say it is out of warranty so, tough luck. If your dryer is thumping. Get it checked ASAP while on warranty.

DLE2514W and have the exact same issue. $200 for part $300 for labor and LG says I am on the hook for this. I am tossing this out and buying a samsung (lifetime warranty on the drum).

If you are still looking for information on this:
No, there has not been any recall.
It is not a real common problem. I only see 1 or 2 a year, which is not many. (LE errors on washers are much more common, for example) The part number of the drum for a DLE2512W dryer is 3045EL1002D and lists for just over $100. You can find a service center to order the part from (in the US) at http://us.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp
I would rate the repair at about a 5 or 6 out of 10 on a scale of 1-10 in difficulty. (Basically, remove top, remove front control panel, remove front panel, remove front drum support, remove belt, drum comes out the front, reassemble.)

I had a 2514 with a similar problem. Cracked drum. This is what I did to fix it. With the new drum. No noise at all.

Ordered drum from Sears parts. 3045EL1002D
Cost of 85$ + 15 to ship. It came in 5 days.

Here is how to do it on a DLE2514W. Takes about an hour. I only used a phillips screw

driver. Take your time and look over the situation. I hope that I rememberd

everything. Good luck.

I'd say yes, especially if you replace it yourself to avoid a service call. Top needs to come off (screws at back, then push top back 2 inches and lift off), remove front, remove 4 screws holding front bulk head / front rollers, slip belt off tension pulley, remove drum, reverse to install.

Dryer makes a thumping sound with or without anything in it

Look for a crack in the seam, where the stainless steel drum is welded together, either at the front or back edge of the drum. If weld is cracked, replace drum.

WE HAVE HAD THE LG DLE2532W DRYER JUST OVER THREE YEARS. RECENTLY, WE HAD TO REPLACE THE DRUM BECAUSE IT HAD A CRACK IN IT. NOW THE REPLACEMNT DRUM (FOUR MONTHS OLD) HAS A CRACK IN IT AND THE DRYER IS NOT...

Here's one place you can order a new drum. However, if the drum has cracked twice in four months you need to find out if there's something else with the dryer that's making the drum crack. You also need to think if you're doing something like putting shoes in there or something that's stressful on the dryer.

LG DLE2514w electric dryer has loud thud every turn

Hi,
Most model dryers are supported at thge rear of the drum with a bearing configuration, but usually the front of the drum is supported by some lining pads or guides. These help hold the rotation of the drum concentric. It sounds like your drum is not spinning concentric. My guess would be that some new guides might need to be installed.
Hope this helps...

LG DRYER MAKING CLUNKING NOISE

Clunking could be from bad rollers or cracked drum. Check the drum seam for a crack. If its the rollers you can do the same thing as drum replacement only order the rollers. I got my parts from Sears parts. The below is for a 2514 but should be close for yours.
