It is possible that the computer was still accessing the drive when you unplugged it. Depending on what it was doing this could have corrupted files on the HDD.

Does your "device manager" see the drive at all... either as a drive or USB device?

How to restore corrupted BIOS of presario cq60 laptop

Whenever you upgrade the BIOS on your notebook, a copy of the previous version is stored in the HP TOOLS partition of your hard disk drive. Many HP notebook computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that allows you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional. This emergency recovery feature is separate from the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of a catastrophic BIOS failure. To recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your notebook:
  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Plug the notebook into power using the power adapter.
  3. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key down at the same time while the computer is off.
  4. Still pressing those keys, press and hold down the Power button on the notebook for 3 seconds and then release the Power button and the keys. The screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything appears on the display. You might also hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays.note.pngNOTE:If the computer fails to display an HP BIOS Update screen, press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to turn off the computer. Wait 5 seconds and try again. If, after repeated attempts, you cannot open the HP BIOS Update screen, your computer does not support this function or it has a hardware problem that is preventing the tool from opening.Figure 1: HP BIOS Update screenc03376208.jpg
  5. When the BIOS has been recovered, a Continue Startup button displays and timer counts down. You can click Continue Startup to restart the computer or you can allow the timer to reach zero and the computer will restart automatically.Figure 2: HP BIOS Update screenc03376209.jpg
  6. After restoring the BIOS, if the computer repeatedly displays a message that the BIOS has been reset, then perform the steps in HP BIOS Application Selected is Corrupt or Missing .
  7. After restarting, Windows may display a message stating that the computer was improperly shut down or that a boot problem was detected. Read and respond to the screens to continue.

My Hitachi Microdrive 4gb hard drive seems corrupt, but my computer still shows photos as jpg files (about 1000kb) and jrg files(30000kb, impossible). When I try to open them, the computer shows "no file"...

H there this mean a file is corrupt and you need to repair the damage file, you can do this by using a recovery disk for the computer if you have one.If you don't do not have a recovery disk for the computer you can use the operating system disk to repair it,please follow these steps:insert the operating system disk into the drive, restart the computer, press F12 and choose boot from CD save and exit.As the computer loading it will ask you to press any key to boot from CD, press any key, a blue screen will appear while its loading, when it get to the first set of options you will press enter to continue. when it get to the second set of options it will ask you to install the operating system or repair it, choose repair and follow the steps from there, this should solve the problem. But should backup your files before doing this even though no file will be lost but its better to backup just in case something goes wrong.

Can't turn off Hard Drive

The error means that you are using a file on the external hard drive and that it can not close that file when it is use. You have to close the program that is using the file first.

Example:
Lets go on the assumption that you have your music collection on the external. If you still have your music player running when you try to disconnect, you will be greeting with the same error message.

If the external contains any files that your Operating System uses, you will get this message anytime the computer is on. An example of this can be your "Page File".

Shutting the computer down correctly is your safest bet until you find exactly what file is being used and what program is using it. During shut down, the computer closes any running programs. With no programs running, it will safely disconnect from the external HD because there will be no files in use.

If you manually disconnect it while the file is in use, you could very easily corrupt the file and make it unusable. This is comparable to an Operating System getting corrupted from a computer not being shut down correctly (pulling the power from wall without doing a shut down).

Hope this helps.

Maxtor D740X-6L 40 GB drive won't start up.

Put your windows xp disc in the drive and boot up from it, run windows repair or failing that reinstall on the upgrade option to keep your files and programs.
If that fails, you will have to do a full instal.
