Tascam 202MKII Single Dual Cassette Deck

Which low-priced cassette mixdown decks are good?

By herself - usenet poster

I just got a Tascam 424MKII 4-track recorder and I love it. Soon I will
be wanting to mix some of my recordings down to a 2-track stereo
cassette and I am wondering what decks are good.

I have been looking at the Tascam 102MKII single cassette deck and the
Tascam 202MKII dual cassette deck. Has anyone ever used either of
these? Does the 202MKII have any extra features other than the second
deck? Are there any other mixdown cassette decks out there around that
price range that you would recommend?
I have the same problem.

I have been using the Denon 790 for almost a year now and I get constant
compliments on how good the cassettes sound. Its an expensive deck but very
nice.

I own a Tascam 102, and have found it adequate. That's about all you can say.
It won't blow you away by any means, but it is one of the most cost effective
options. That was my main reason for the purchase.

This is probably true. But the problem is that most people don't have
VHS machines in their car, and boom boxes do not accept Hi-Fi VHS tapes.

People use cassettes to give out to customers and as quick references, and
you just can't use VHS tapes for that. Oh, for the days when you could
give out quarter-track 7" reels at 7.5 ips for references again

Once again I say any HiFi VHS VCR will beat the crap out of ANY cassette
machine.

Brian,

The 102mkII is a decent machine and it makes a decent mixdown deck.
Although I'd have to recommend trying to squeeze a DAT deck into your
budget if you can. With only 4-tracks a DAT deck can serve double duty.
You can record your 4 tracks then bounce to the DAT without losing a
generation. Then bounce back to the 4-track on a fresh tape. That way you
can always change levels or processing later. Then you can mixdown to the
DAT for your master. Good Luck!

lotsa people argue over which cassette decks are better / worse.
remember, no matter how many features and what Dolby (A/B/C/x/y/z) it
has and all, the end product needs to play back correctly on anyone car
stereo/home stereo/or walkman...
