Wont build pressure over 25 psi after rebuild

I have a 15 gal 3hp craftsman compressor model 919.167243 and it started to make a higher pithced noise and stop building pressure over 20-25. i replaced the headgasket , the oring in the tube, new rod kit, rod, sleeve, ring. i put back together with new parts and same thing. i checked the check valve and it moves freely. unhooked the tube to the check valve and it is pushing air. the motor doesn't stop running at at but i think because of the low pressure. please please help with any ideas or anything

how would i check for belt slippage? the belt has teeth and looks good shape. but i will try anything. inlet valve? how do i check that is this built into the top of the head? i soaked the head in carb cleaner.

well the compressor never broke sort of say it just started whine when i was using it and would build pressure. i have exp. with air compressors but i natural assumed the ring and sleeve need replace. i am gonna try un bolting the rod from the motor and see if the whine remains.

Sounds like the belt is slipping have you checked the inlet and discharge valves also could be bad and leaking or stuck or installed wrong

i have read elsewhere that the bearings in the motor tend to have a short life and fail .when the compressor failed the first time could some broken parts made their way somewhere in the head or check valve there should be a valve plate with valves on it Im not too sure of the exact design of this without looking at it but I sure ive seen em all.let me say from experience that almost all craftsman air compressors are junk and especially oil less ones the best compressors are ones made from cast iron and lubricated.

Cagey here i took mine in to be fixed and it was the piston and rings. they couldn't hold over 33psi of pressure.

My compressor will not go over 20 psi i have a craftsman 921 4 gal 125 psi compressor and it will not build past 20 psi i do not know how to get to the pistons and stuff what do i do?

The problem with compressors not building pressure is usually a bad pressure switch or bad regulator. Does the motor shut off at 20psi or does it continue running and not build pressure? If the motor continues to run with no increase in pressure, the you should go over the machine looking for air leaks from your regulator back all the way to the motor. Any air leak while the compressor is running can cause the pressure to "peak" way before the intended shutoff that it is regulated to.

Check for a leak between you compressor head (pump) and your tank. Your pump output may be good but as your tank pressure gets higher the leak will not allow the tank to build up.
