Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

1 Answer

Can't connect to internet

Last week I recieved update from microsoft, when I went to download it to computer, it like took everything back to when I first brought this machine. I used a wireless connection (linksey) and now it shows that the information is downloaded in system, the system doesn't seem to find it.
It's very frustrating knowing last week this worked prefectly fine and now I have nothing.... what am I doing wrong, what do I need to do to correct this problem as nothing seem to work? I know internet is working for my son's computer is having no problems.

When you recieved the microsoft update it might have changed the drivers of the adapter in your computer. If that is the case you need to reinstall the drivers of the adapter so that it can connect to your router again. You need to identify the brand and model of your adapter to do that.

I don't know whats wrong whith my internet speed since last summer. My computer downloads diffrent aplications at diffrent speeds.

Speed in downloads and uploads vary hour by hour, day in ,day out, where, when, traffic, connections, etc., etc., etc., can affect the speed. Many, many things affect internet speed, some you can control , some you can't. It may be the ISP , equipment outside, if ALL your equipment is connected correctly, up-to-date, that's about all you can do. It's almost impossible to point at one problem.

Internet going off VERY frequently

1. Firmware update may be required for the Router.
2. check your firewall settings and the Wireless configuration in the router.
3. You may have to allow the MAC address for the device that you are trying to connect with to have permission to connect to the network.
4. Verify IP for the the PC ( this is done in the DOS window) at the DOS prompt type "ipconfig /all" this will bring up the network report as to what is and what is not connected.
5. Unplug router and modem from the AC.
6. Reboot the PC.
7. Window is totally different from the router firmware updates.
Windows is downloading it security and web update when you see the prompt. This has nothing to do with the router.

Intermitent wireless connection

1. check the firmware updates for you router.
There should be a update manager in the router.
2. bring up a web page type in 192.168.0.1 then enter the user name as "admin"
no password.
3. check status page to see if you are getting an IP address.
this is not a Windows 7 issue.
4. Hard wire the router to the PC to do the firmware updates. That is connect a RJ45 cable or ethernet cable ( straight through) not a crossover.

The issue I see is that the lights all are lighting up. I'd bet it is caused by some type of short or like a power outage or surge (remember surge protectors basically do nothing at all). If I were to guess, that's it. Other than that, I would flash the firmware back to original if it lets me.

Have you tried testing by bypassing your router and connecting your computer directly? If you were not able to connect, then your internet service provider should be contacted.

Help please! TP-Link Wireless Router TL-WR641G stopped working

It looks like all your devices by themselves are working fine.
Good start.
If you took the router out of your office I assume that the settings from the office and your home are different, which causes the setup not to work properly.

First of all you should find out which hardware version of the router you have and download the manual from here, so you have the information at hand when you're not online.

Then you want to rest the router to factory settings, so you start clean. In order to do so, use the Factory Default Reset button: First, turn off the router's power. Second, press and hold the default reset button then turn on the router's power, until the SYS LED lights up (about 3 seconds). Last, release the reset button and wait for the router to reboot.

Follow the instructions in the manual form page 8 on onwards with a special view on setting up PPPoE. Have your information form your DSL provider handy (Account name and password).
The default webpage for the router interface is http://192.168.1.1
Username and password are both "admin".

Do not enable any wireless security until everything is working fine.

Make sure later to change the password to something else, so no one can "take over" your router.

If this solution did not help, please don't rate it as "Thanks for trying" or so, but leave a comment instead and I will check back and we can work form there.

Good luck!
