Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

Whirlpool gas dryer model lgr3634jw0 won't start. Dryer is used about once/week during winter months. Was operating properly when last used last week. Think an electrical component has failed but not certain. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

After several days trying to locate the problem, I decided to junk the machine & buy a new product. The machine was 8 years old and I accidentally broke the igniter while trying to dissamble the various pieces of the machine. The igniter wasn't the problem nor was the problem ever definitely diagnosed. With this machiine's relative little usage & unresolved electrical failure, the machine reflected its poor quality of manufacture.

Black spots in cloths after drying

Gas or electric dryer?

If gas, I would be suspect the black spots are carbon, which, based on your describing that when you clean the interior of the drum, the spots return, is coming from the burner area.

1) If the above is correct, then call quit using the dryer serviceman immediately before continuing use.
2) If your handy repairing things, you will need to remove power from the unit, and access the combustion chamber from the backside of the appliance for cleaning.

This will be a messy job, as carbon black is messy. It comes from incomplete burning of the gas as it goes into the combustion chamber. This is normally caused by restricted airflow into the combustion chamber, and that cause is difficult to identify without looking at the unit. Best thing is to just clean the unit up real good, removing any lint buildup and carbon that can be found, and confirming that the proper orifice is installed (is this an LP dryer operating on natural gas, or vice versa.). Once cleaned and all repairs made, you will need to operate the dryer with old, clean rags in the drum for several cycles until you are certain any residual carbon has been blown through.

Gas dryer not drying properly

you would want to check the force of the air coming out of your vent at the outside.if this is not great.check to make sure your duct is not kinked or your lint screen is clean.if you have already done this.then you have an internal block in your dryer duct.you will need to call in your local tech.
