Just bought this machine, brand new. We set it up (following the book, and we do have a fair bit of experience with sewing machines) and started sewing. The white thread we were using came out brownish-black. At first we thought it was excess oil in the machine, because the thread got lighter (less blackened) as we kept sewing on our sample fabric. Then, the next day, we re-threaded it and set it up again, and the thread came out just as dark as before, though again we were using white thread. What should we do?

Check the position of the bottom piece that holds the bobbin carrier to the left so it rides smoothly on the rotating hook that carries the upper thread around the bobbin. I found my wife"s machine loose so the bobbin carrier was out of position and not riding on the ledge of the rotating part. loosen two screws and push it to the left and tighten.
If upper thread bunches below the material it needs more tension so it pulls back up through the material.
If the old singers were fords this is a yugo
(been fixing and adjusting her machines for years. ))

Make sure you have threaded the machine from right to left, it sounds like the needle thread is trapped under the lower looper thread and cannot form a stitch.........start the threading over from scratch like this:
Is there a diagram for how to thread on the inside of the door ?
Follow that slowly and carefully to make sure you have not missed any thread guides on the way, as each one needs to be followed through to ensure correct tension and thread progression.
If you are certain that all threaded correctly, did you have a fabric jam and pulled it loose ? If so, the timing may well be affected.
Post an update and we'll get this right.

SOURCE: Top thread stitches correctly but bottom thread loops.
FYI---- Loops on the bottom-- problem is in the threading..
Loops on the top--- problem is with the bobbin.

Hi! Did you by chance, change your needle? If so, make sure you have the flat side of the needle shaft facing the correct direction. If the needle isn't in all the way or the flat side of the shaft facing the right way, the bobbin thread won't pick up.
Let me know if this helps, ok?
Happy Sewing!

As for the bobbin thread not picking up it could be your hook timing is off. Do you know how to adjust this?
