Have you been using non-OEM (ie: from anyone other than HP) cartridges?, refillables, etc... before now?

If so, do they have the black rubber bulb in the base of the Magenta (red) cartridge?

If not that will be your problem.. The printer relies on this bulb to pump the ink into the printhead and also to detect when the cartridge is out of ink. Without it, it can pump air into the printhead and burn it out.

It's also possible that the feeding system in the printer is damaged and leaking slightly. If that's the case you would need to return the printer for warranty replacement (if it's in warranty) or take it to a service center (it's not user repairable).

If you are out of warranty and the service center is the only option I would decide where it's worth trying a new printhead. It may simply be the printhead is duff in which case you may be able to request a warranty replacement for that (if it's in warranty).

Hope that helps...

Magenta and cyan will not print on my hp officejet pro L7590 -- it started with a paper jam that was corrected - ever since then only the yellow and black will print on the paper -- printheads are good and...

Same thing happened to my printer hp L7590. Printed diagnostic, only black and yellow printed; diagnostic for printhead health Ky=good, MC= good. Only Hp products ever used. Uplugged, & discharged static, cleaned copper parts of printhead. Still no fix. On visual examination of floor of printhead compartment rectangular pad ( approx 1/4" by 1/2") is missing. I can only guess that during the paper jam, somehow the pad got caught up and went awol. Not sure what to do now.

Officejet Pro L7590 printhead message (printheads only 2m. old)!

Pull out the printhead from the computer and check the date under "warranty ends" If the warranty period did not lapse, call HP technical support and tell them about the problem. They will replace the printhead for free. I have gone through 3 black/yellow printheads and I received the replacement printheads via FedEx within 1-2 days. They will send you a pre-paid envelope to return via U.S. Postal Service via US Postal Service.

If the Warranty date on the printhead expired, then you may have to come out of pocket to replace the printhead since HP will argue that they are not obligated to replace the printhead since the manufacturer warranty lapsed.

If this is the case, check to see when you purchased the printer. If the purchase was within a year, the retailer (i.e. Best Buy) is on the hook since there is a 1 year implied warranty on products such as printers, regardless of whether the expiration date on the HP printhead expired.

Hope this helps
