Look at the plastic strip with the fine lines that the cartridge goes along. Make sure it's clean. Use a damp clean cloth.

Have the 962 and it was working now makes a long noise when trying to feed paper and says error 2200

You didn't say which operating system you are using so I guessed and searched for problems at the Dell site with Vista systems. Here are the error codes it returned:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/tree?c=us&dl=false&l=en&s=gen&treeid=E28F8843A2D8A315E0301E0A55174226&doclang=en&cs=

Error 2200 is a scan carrier stall error.

If you don't use Vista, please navigate backwards from this link and choose your operating system.

Blinking lights on Lexmark Z12 printer

Unfortunately, the Lexmark website is set up so I can't provide you with direct links to the workaround for these problems....
Go here: http://support.lexmark.com/perl/support/support.cgi
Do a search on "blinking flashing lights + Z12"
and try to follow the steps outlined in the troubleshooting guides that calls up.
This is the most likely candidate, but there are others that could cause this symptom:

Lights Flashing on the Printer ID: 241
Test the cartridges one by one and do the printer hardware test (refer to the relevant document for your printer) to establish which one is defective. The defective cartridge needs to be changed.

If the power light on the printer is blinking, you may have a carrier stall. To check this:
First unplug the printer.
Move the cartridges to the left by hand. In order to do this, you need to grip the top of the carrier belt (a black/grey belt with cog-like teeth) and pull it towards the right-hand side of the printer.
Once the cartridges have been moved across, you can clip them out.
Try to print without the cartridges in the carrier.
If you no longer have a carrier stall, put the cartridges back into the carrier and clip them into place.
I hope one of these options will provide you with the solution to your problem. If not, please write back with a report of what you tried and we will try to help you further.

If I have managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this posting....thanks!

1. Uninstall, and re-install the printer.

Else....

2. Error 2200 is a Scan Carrier Stall error... Maybe the scan carrier stalled during a scan job? Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, and then turn on the printer.

else

3. If no result....Try this... turn off the printer then remove the power supply and press the power button for 15 seconds (it should clear info out of the printer). Then plug the power back in and press the power button.

Carrier stall.

There could be 4 possibilities.

1. Ink cartridges lids are open which is not allowing cartridges to move freely.
2. Ink cartridges carriage will not move from its original position(left) when front cover is opened
3. Encoder strip is Dirty.
4. Encoder strip is Out of position.

Solution:
1. Open the front cover and check if ink cartridges lids are properly snapped in.

2. Turn the printer off and pull out the power cable from power socket, open the front cover and manually center the ink cartridges carriage.
Clean the metallic rod inside the printer using WD40 or Kleenex from Left corner to right corner properly.

3. Cleaning the encoder strip:
a. printer should be off and disconnected from power.
b. open the front cover.
c. Using a dry, lint free cloth, pinch the encoder strip on the right-hand side of the cartridge carriage and pull your fingers across it toward the right-hand side of the printer and you can move the cartridges carriage to clean the strip completely.
d. Note: The encoder strip is a narrow band of clear plastic and can be difficult to see without direct lighting running parallel to metallic rod.
e. Close the printer and try again to print.

4. Repositioning the Encoder strip.
a. Remove the power cord from the printer.
b. Open the front cover.
c. Gently slide the ink cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.
d. Gently move the top part of the printer belt to the right.
e. Using an index finger, gently push encoder strip down and then back up, to get it back into the slot located on the back of the ink cartridge carrier.
f. Gently press the strip first to the rear, and then forward, to ensure that it is seated correctly.
g. Manually move the ink cartridge carrier to the left, then to the right, to check the positioning of the encoder strip.
h. Once the encoder strip has been re-seated, close the scanner lid.
i. Re-connect the power cord to the printer and try again to print.

I would appreciate if you could let me know if you have refilled the black cartridge, cause Dell printer often give error messages if the cartridges are refilled and not replaced with an original Dell one. If you have done so please replace the cartridge with a genuine Dell cartridge.

"Carrier stall" Error and the Carrier Slams in the Printer I
If the printer carrier is slamming into the side of the printer, please try the following:
  1. Disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
  2. Open the front cover of the printer where the cartridges are located.
  3. Look for two black bands that span from left to right (they should have one serrated side and one smooth side). Just above the black bands there is a transparent strip; this strip is called the Encoder strip.
  4. Flick this strip lightly with your finger to make sure that it is running smoothly from left to right. You may need to do this two or three times. CAUTION: Do not pull the strip!
  5. Close the front cover of the printer and reconnect the power supply.
