I have a Gateway with Vista. I have a HP Deskjet F4200 that came with it. It worked fine for a year. The computer asked me to upgrade the driver on the HP. After doing so, the computer says "The...

Simple things. OS doesnot support the driver & ask for updating. Its mean you might update your OS or you changed the OS . So use the driver which is support the driver. You can find this driver on the website of HP. Thanks.

A Lexmark x1270 printer came free with the purchase of my Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 only to find that it is not compatible. Any suggestions?

What do you mean "not compatible"? Do you mean that the included CD doesn't have drivers that work for your OS? What OS do you have? (The A135-S4427 initially came with Vista Premium.)

If you need the drivers, download the correct one from the support site: http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=recommendedDownloads&locale=EN&productCode=LEXMARK_X1270&segment=DOWNLOAD&userlocale=EN_US#1 . Make sure to get the correct version (32-bit or 64-bit) - Start Control Panel > System and Security > System should give the information on the OS.

All-in-ones like this will lose features if you use a generic driver. The scanner needs bi-directional communication with the computer. If you have problems, try a new USB cable, a different port and a direct connection if using a print server or USB hub. Try a known working device in the USB hubs and make sure the USB ports aren't disabled for power-savings (Advanced settings from the Screen Saver) or security (Device manager).

I hope this helps.

I found the Mac OS driver on Epson's driver site.Hit the plus sign to see more information with instructions and a download link.

Not sure what you mean by "viable". Personally if it prints and does what I need it to do reliably/consistently I consider it viable. But that may just be me.

Can't print both sides with new OS on Mac

You sometimes have to do it manually. What I mean is is will stop you after is prints the first side and you have to than put the paper back into the paper tra and then press ok to the box that should pop up. If the box does not pop up, then I don;t know.
