Samsung SH-S202N CD DVD burner

Ok I have a computer probable about 7 years old with windows xp professional on it. I have had a cd burner in the computer but the tray got stuck so i put back the orginal cd rom drive and than finally wanted to upgrade to a cd dvd burner. I bought a samsung SH-S202N drive. it came with a disc with nero 7 and lightscribe on it. first off i unpluged and disconnected everything and took the cd rom drive out and put in the new dvd burner. it seemed like my computer detected it and installed or said it was ready for use. so i put the disc in to be able to burn and what not. I already had a nero version installed in my computer. when the autorun page came up for the disc it had two things on there the nero 7 and a link to a firmware update no link would work. so i tried going to the samsungodd.com website to get the update or what not for firmware and it would never download or install correctly. it kept saying could not get the update to start. and after messing around a bit got it to start the update but than said it needed windows xp service pack 2 i got that updated and stuff. than it asked for the windows xp disc. I just dont' understand why its asking for so much stuff. I cannot find my disc because i've moved so many times in the last 2 years. and just never had to do this with the other drives i put in. I don't know if this is because of the newer dvd stuff or what. but also when i try to install the nero 7 it says it needs a update and that the serial number supports that i need other features updated and i think there talking about the firmware. I'm stumped and wanna keep this samsung but i don't know. i've read online that this model isn't compatable with windows xp. so pretty much if there is any answer for this let me know or some more troubleshooting
