Question about Samsung HLN617W 61" Rear Projection HDTV

Possible bad color wheel? HLN617W

I have a samsung HLN617W svc model hln617wx/xaa, I had a series of things happen that may or may not be related. Thats why I am asking....
It started out with a shadow on the bottom right corner..Not to bad, I found that this was a common problem. I lived with it. Then when you turn it off, you cant turn it back on for about an hour or two. I have to unplug it and let it sit. I figured the ballast was going out. Then, I was watching it...no hum or any noise, The screen went to black and white. Well, I thought it was the color wheel. After about three days, I started to get these flashes on the screen. Not all the time but every once in a wile it would start flashing white. Kind of like over exposed film. It does that for about 1-2 minutes then stops flashing.
I took the tv apart to look at the color wheel. I figure it had to be spinning to get the picture but the wheel was broken off or something. Well, that was the case. the glass part was shattered. I am ordering a color wheel but, my question is,
1. Do you think there maybe something blocking the lens to cause the shadow?
2. Do you think the ballast is going out also?
3. What can be causing the flashing?

Will replacing the color wheel solve all of these issues?

Is it possible to have only the red tint projector lamp replaced on 61" projector Samsung tv

No. This is a DLP TV. It gets it's color by a color wheel. If color seems to drift across screen or there is a loud-ish whining noise from back of TV that you can here clear across a room, then this color wheel may be bad. They wear out.

Our Samsung tv will not turn on/power on. It sounds like it starts to power on, the light blinks twice then you hear something, the light stays on solid after that. This model usually has an audible tone...

I would suggest two things you need to examine :

First remove and examine the lamp to make sure it is not shattered or fractured.

Second examine the color wheel that faces the lamp (see attached photo) and if you had a fan like sound or high pitched whine before that points to the color wheel.

The color wheel is a do it your self replacement (I can help) and takes less than a hour.

Let me know what you have tried and if the lamp or color wheel are intact.

Samsung HLN617W 61 i

it is not related to the failure of the fan or color wheel by anything other then the age of the set..the lamp has a normal life of 4000 to 6000 hours and since your set is around 3.5 years old it probably has that amount of time on it..the lamp is consumer replaceable and many places sell them..the lamp number should be on a small sticker on the side of the set
