What is the screen message? Unable to...what? Please clarify. There are several "unable to's" ie. Change, Clean, Init., Print, Scan. Put it in your post. Thanks.

When you unplugged the unit from power? How long did you leave it unplugged?

This might sound silly, but seriously, try this...unplug it from power and turn the unit upside down, give it a gentle shake and turn it back right side up. Plug it back in again and turn it on. Does the message go away?

Hi and thank you for using FixYa,

Unfortunately, almost always, this error message indicates a problem with the print head. If you have tried cleaning a couple of times with no corrective results, may I suggest you explore replacing the piezo printhead. Importantly, it would be to your advantage to first get a quote. In most instances the repair cost, down time and effort to effect a repair may no longer prove to be economically reasonable. Should this be the case, then either consider a warranty claim/repair or re-evaluate your options and consider purchase of a replacement printer. Sorry but have to state the options.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

An MFC426 uses the same chassis/engine as with most MFC models including a 420-C and/or 210C. Your best initial move would be to get hold of a service manual that details Maintenance/Service modes and resulting machine error codes. An abbreviate procedure of removing the print head is available here and here. Service manuals maybe purchased here or here.

Take your cartridge out from the printer and check it well and place it once again and check for any paper bits inside printer .
Also check whether roller is moving freely .
    Hope this helps .

Hi,

What is the condition of your print cartridges? They could have dried out during the 2 month period that you didn't use the printer. Try, cleaning the contacts of the cartridges and the printer. If you have new cartridges to try....even better.

Says unable to print 4f, see troubleshooting and routine maintenance. please help.

This is a print head failure of some type. Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord and lift up the scanner unit. Check for any paper or foreign object. See if you can slide the printhead and check under it. If the printhead will not move easily, do not force it. If the printhead is all the way to the right, you will not be able to move it. Use a flashlight to check for any foreign objects or paper scraps soaked with ink. Remove any foreign stuff that you find.

That error is a carriage travel error, the printhead is not moving freely. Most often paper scraps either on the extreme right side where the printhead parks, or on the extreme left side where it's hard to see.

Problem with my printer Brother MFC-240C "Print unable 4F"

Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart,
try this step by step.without missing any thing. thanks
