The printhead probably needs to be taken out of printer and cleaned. just pop the ink cartridges out, then remove the print-head, fill a sink full of warm water, and swirl the print head around in the warm water. Blow through the color slits on the print head into the sink full of water it will get messy. empty the sink full of colored warm water. rinse and repeat till your are satisfied its clean. dry it off with a cloth towel you don't care for, because it will get messy and covered in ink. put your printer back together and it should work...it may take a few times...but i got my printer 'PGBK ink cartridge' working again doing this. or you can spend 100 bucks and buy a new print-head...my printer is a mp830 it came apart easily no tools or force needed... good luck and don't break your printer...its easy.

We have a MP830 Canon - Faxes/copies are printing with text missing; appears to be missing every three lines or so. I have cleaned the printer head; auto aligned it but still printing with missing text. ...

I service this unit a lot for print quality issues, and most of them come from using non-Canon brand ink. There is a solvent quality to the Canon ink that helps keep the printhead from clogging.
If you are not using it, I recommend it, especially for the big #5 ink tank.
Alignment has nothing to do with the missing print.
Use the cleaning utility in the maintenance area of the printer driver utilities to clean the printhead.
Run the nozzle check, and you should see improvement with each cleaning. Do not run the cleaning more than maybe 5 times, and never use the deep cleaning, you are just wasting a lot of ink.
If you don't see any improvement, stop cleaning and take the unit in for service - we have sonic washers and other effective methods for cleaning and flushing the printheads without damage.
You can replace the printhead yourself, but it will cost less to have it cleaned.

Activity report for fax send 2 month ago (Canon MP830)

Page 104 & 105 talk about the activity report. You can have it print out every 20 transactions but you can also look at the log as a whole report as well. The manual for your printer is located here:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=12804#DownloadDetailAct

Click on Drivers and downloads. Go down to the guides and manuals section. click on this PDF file: mp830_ug_us_v4.pdf

Make sure you have adobe reader on your computer and check out pages 104 and 105. They talk alot about the activity report.

I'm getting banding on black and white text prints, some lines of text don't show up at all. Have tried all the cleaning and alignment functions with no joy.

Try this. Insert a genuine black cartridge (if you are not already using one). This worked for me on a C6180 printer 1.Try placing sheet of black text on copy board, and run many copies black only. I ran 25x12 times still no black. Run head clean after about each 50 sheets. Persevered and finally BLACK ink OK

Mp830 is not printing black text

hi - i have the same problem except it is my red -- have you tried to take out the sponge carriage and soak it in warm water -- this is ok as long as you let it dry really well before placing it back into the carriage holder --- i use the faucet and warm to medium hot water and let it flow over the sponges until the water runs clear -- then i set it on paper towels ( they tend to be most absorbent ) - then after an hour or so ( sometimes i am impatient so it ends up being 10 mins ) i dry any remaining water (*** VERY CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE METAL CONTACT CONNECTORS IN THE GREEN AREA ON THE BACK SIDE --- JUST DAB LIGHTLY WITH A SOFT TOWEL) also use a q-tip to run along the bottom metal slits where the ink is dispensed ---- this should clear any clogs that are present -- some times my sponge is difficult and i need to add force-of-air , to the sponges ( i do this by blowing into it like i was blowing up a balloon ) i tried a syringe but it did not work as well -- i hope this solves your problem

PIXMA MP830 is Printing Stripes

Really sounds like the black portion of your print head is clogged. Do the "deep clean" on the black head a couple of times. If it's still not working you may have either a bad head or a clogged purge unit.
Clogged purge units are very common on inkjets.

You can try soaking the bottom of the head on a very wet paper towel overnight. Retry using the head the next day and see if the black is working (print more text documents).

If that doesn't work, you'll have to find a way to check the purge unit/capping assembly under the home position of the head. It will require taking the unit apart and removing the purge unit and cleaning it. Make sure the two tubes are not clogged, Use a piece of wire and feed it through the tubes to try and remove any dried ink.

If you're not into trying to take the unit apart, it's time for a service shop or a replacement printer

MP830 Canon Faxing problem

Display the fax menu and then select Print Report\List and print the Users Data List. Check the setting of the ECM TX setting. If this is ON turn it OFF. This is the Error Correction Mode setting, probability is the fax you are sending to is not ECM compatible. The MP830 is suppose to automatically send in standard mode if receiving machine is not ECM compatible however I am not sure how well this works. Turn the ECM setting off by displaying the Fax Menu and then select Maintenance\Settings, Device Settings, Fax Settings, TX settings, ECM TX.

Repeated Fax TX report printing

Solution #3 solved it for me. The report kept printing over and over, so I used the menus (roughly) mentioned in Soluton #3 by guest.

My problem was the printer was trying to print the TX Error Report with the image attached. That made the report too big for standard sized paper, so the machine kept telling me to check the paper size, and I'd hit 'OK', and that made the machine try to print the report again, for it continued to think it had not printed a complete report.

Here's what I did...

Go to: Fax Menu
Arrow right ( >) to Maintenance/Settings, hit, 'OK'
Arrow right to (>) to Device Settings, hit 'OK',
Fax Settings, hit 'OK',
Arrow down ( v ) to TX Settings, hit 'OK',
Arrow down ( v ) to TX Report, OK
Select 'Print error only', hit 'OK',
Attach TX image, Select 'NO', hit 'OK"

With the instruction to not attach the TX image, it will print out the error report without the TX image, the report will fit on the paper, and it will clear this problem.

Good luck!

Fax memory

This thread might be dead but I found that you CAN turn off report printing, which also frees up the memory, in the Fax->Menu->Maintenance/settings->Device Settings->Fax Settings->TX Settings->TX Report. Turn reporting off and it clears memory also. Hard to find but its there.
