Question about Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera

Same, but... After doing your trick it worked for a while. Then I put the camera off and on again. Same black screen appeared. How can I keep that "iris" open?

Hi, when my camera switches on the lights flashes a few times quickly. The intro screen comes on then the screen goes black. It totally freezes and the only way i can put it off is by removing the battery!...

Hi, I solved the problem, it appears the memory card was corrupt. When I removed it and switched on the camera it worked perfectly. Not sure why this happened!! I'm just glad my camera is working again!!

Thanks.

Shutter stuck, screen is black. I changed batteries, no help. tried manual shutter, pulling the batteries, and it worked until I shut it off, then next time, black screen again.

Pamela, try the battery trick again (here it is, along with other's similar experience and tips). But after you get it working, take lots of pictures before putting it away again (take a couple hundred of nothing in particular. Just erase them later. After all it's a digital). You want to really work the shutter mechanism to get out any grit or material that might be in there causing it to stick.

My olympus fe-170 lcd screen won't show ANY pictures.

it would appear that the lcd screen has malfunctioned and would need repair.... you can try power cycle by taking batteries out and press and hold power button down for 10 secs, draining all power out of camera, then put the batteries back in and try again

Canon Powershot SI screen goes black after taking a photo

That sounds like a sticky lens shutter. They usually have to be replaced, as they usually will need parts. When the camera is working look inside the lens and take a picture(with flash turned off). You should see a black shutter door clicking shut in the lens. When the camera acts up, look inside the lens again. If the door is staying shut full time, that is your problem.

Overexposure problem after the black screen

Given that the 15' batteries out trick is just a way of forcing the iris to get un stick i think your iris is probably still getting stuck (but this time open a bit).
you could try doing the 15' trick a few more times in the hope of loosening it a bit.
ultimately once you have had this issue i think you are living on borrowed time before it happens again unless you get it fixed by canon.

Canon s50 display problem

Hello there,
The E18 error is related to the LENS not able to retract fully. If it is still under warranty, I would advise you bring it to the nearest service center. This is to avoid further damages. Otherwise, you can try a few things below.
There are a couple of things you can do.
1. Turn it on and then off. Spray canned air around the lens.
If trick 1 will not work out, try this.
2. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Turn on the camera and then give it a couple of firm whacks on the side. Make sure nothing is blocking the lens and wait for it to fully retract.
Let me know how it goes.

Error message

my camera did the same thing, lens retracts 3 or 4 times, and then proceeded with an error message "turn off and on again". I pressed the power button probably about 10 times, didn't work, so then i gave it a good smack on the top of the frame a few times while repeatedly pressing the power button and it did the trick. Hasn't gave me problems since...hope it helps
